Title: Samhain
Characters: England, Scotland
Challenge: 13- Spook
Bonus Words: terror, pumpkin
Rating: PG
Summary: In which Scotland ropes England into celebrating Samhain with him.

Scotland's laughter was really annoying him. Mostly because he was having such a good time on such an evil holiday, but also because England just hated Scotland.

“Come on, lad!” the tall, red-haired nation exclaimed, throwing a loose arm around his brother. “Get into the spirit! Samhain only comes once a year!”

“Yes, and there's a bloody good reason for it,” England grumbled, adjusting the cape on his shoulder. “I cannot believe people practice such a ridiculous holiday. It isn't as if the spirits of the dead will come and get you if you don't-”

“Shhh...” Scotland slapped a gloved hand over his brother's mouth, eyes darting around the crowded room. “Don't speak like that. The whole reason we're in costumes is so they don't find us.” When England rolled his eyes, Scotland let go.

“You've gone and gotten yourself drunk, haven't you?” England asked with a suspicious gaze.

Scotland's snort just affirmed his assumptions.

“Now, I want you to come see my lantern!” Scotland exclaimed, ignoring England's glare. “The pumpkin I chose was very round and large, certain to scare away any ghouls that might be hanging about.”

“Don't scare them away!” England snapped. “Honestly, you wanker. The ghouls and fairies are always so terrified this time of year. I do wish you would cease this-”

“Nonsense!” Scotland laughed, grabbing his brother's arm and dragging him away. “They love this time of year!”

England didn't really believe that to be the case.

Title: Secret Code
Characters: England, America
Challenge: 13- Spook
Bonus Words: pumpkin
Rating: G
Summary: It's one of America's first times celebrating Halloween.

England had never expected America to get caught up in Halloween, based upon his fear of all things supernatural, but he certainly did get caught up.

Maybe that was because England lessened the emphasis on ghosts and goblins, though, and focused more on candy and costumes.

“What's the pumpkin lantern used for, though, England?” the young colony asked, gazing at his with wide, fascinated eyes.

England glanced over at him for a second, quickly and easily making up a story. “Well, you see, America, the pumpkin lantern is used to, ah...guide fellow Halloween-celebrators to your house. Remember, the Puritans don't like Halloween, and since we don't want to make them angry, we have our own secret code.”

America gasped. “Really?” he asked, climbing to sit on England's leg.

England smirked as he adjusted America's pirate outfit. “Yes,” he said, ruffling the boy's hair. “Really. It's imperative, however, that you never breathe a word of this to anyone. Is that understood?”

America gave a small salute. “Roger, captain!” he giggled out, and England couldn't help but smile with him.
[Samhain]: Read up some of the origin of Halloween, and the Scottish way of celebrating it was super interesting. The English didn't do it as much as the Scottish and...Irish or Welsh did (I forgot now), so I can imagine Scotland roping his lil' bro into celebrating with him.

[Secret Code]: There has to be a reason Halloween in America is more kiddish and fun than Halloween elsewhere. I mean, not that I've BEEN to a Halloween elsewhere. But, apparently, they don't celebrate it in Brazil. This I know because my friend's dad, who came from Brazil, had no idea what this holiday was, so he dropped some yogurt into a child's bag and it exploded. Poor kid. X'D
