Summary: Arthur struggles with the fact that Alfred will no longer be his little boy.

“You...you take care of yourself, lad, you hear?” Arthur shuffled around on his feet uncomfortably, staring only at the plane. Nothing but the plane, his mind told him. Don't look at your son.

Alfred nodded. “Yeah, I hear,” he muttered. “Dad, I...are you sure you're gonna be alright by yourself? I mean...maybe you should go out and get a girlfriend or-”

“No,” Arthur interrupted. “No, I'm well enough alone, Alfred. Besides, I have that idiot Francis living across from me, and Matthew told me he'd still come by to visit when he doesn't have schoolwork. Don't forget Antonio and, when I'm very bored, Gilbert.” He finally managed to catch his son's eye and, to his displeasure, felt a tear drip down his cheek. “D-Don't you dare forget to call me, okay? I'll be very disappointed if you...if you forget about your father.”

With a small frown, Alfred gathered Arthur up in a hug, though Arthur was able to catch a glimpse of the tears that Alfred was trying to hide. “I love you, Dad. I won't forget.”

They stayed like that for a few minutes before Arthur drew back and straightened his suit. “Right. Well, your plane departs shortly. You...you should be getting on.” He patted Alfred's shoulder awkwardly. “I hope college suits you well.”

Alfred grinned, trying not to cry too much anymore. “I'll be fine,” he said. He picked up his suitcases, gave one last smile to his father, and disappeared off into the crowd.

Arthur stared after him, a sinking feeling in his heart, before turning to go back home, where there would be no Alfred at all.
A/N: I've always loved those parent-child movies where the kid grows up and the parent realizes they will no longer be staying around with them anymore. The main three movies I had in mind were Toy Story 3, My Dog Skip (yes, it's more of a dog realizing his owner had grown up and would no longer be with him and then I won't say anymore 'cause of spoilers), and that second Goofy Movie, where Max goes off to college and Goofy goes to sit in his room and picks up his teddy bear...all my feels, man. All my feels.
