”This might be the dumbest idea you've had all year.”

“Nonsense! Everything will go according to plan!” Denmark grinned widely and wobbled a bit on the chair he was standing on as he carefully tied red ribbons around the mistletoe he had fastened to the doorframe. Norway rubbed the base of his nose. He could just feel the headache sneaking up on him.

“I have to agree,” Iceland watched Denmark intently as he stood leaned against the wall with his arms crossed. “A simple mistletoe isn't going to make things better.”

Denmark sighed, “Well, we have to try at least. Or Christmas is going to suck balls this year.” Sweden and Finland had been fighting for two weeks and was currently not speaking to one another and Christmas was approaching quickly. Denmark, for one, wouldn't accept it. They would not be allowed to ruin Christmas with their meaningless arguing over laundry, or dinner, or whatever couples like that fought about.

Plan “Get Sweden and Finland to make up” was having a slow start though. Sweden arrived at Denmark's house half an hour too late, blaming the weather and the fact that the bridge was closed, and by the time he was there, Finland was already comfortably seated in a sofa, chatting with Norway and Iceland, not even acknowledging the Swede's arrival.

Not that Sweden was paying much attention to Finland anyway, he just curtly nodded in his general direction and sat down in the other side of the room.

“So, Sweden, how're you doin', man?” Denmark sat down next to him and slung a heavy arm around his shoulders.

“M'fine,” Sweden muttered and pushed Denmark away, “Jus' tired, that's all.”

“Yeah, driving in this weather ain't fun,” Denmark agreed, not phased by the Swede shoving him away. “But at least you got here safe.”

“Mm,” Sweden just hummed in agreement.

The night went on, and when Sweden and Finland had made no moves whatsoever towards talking to each other, Denmark figured he would have to interfere. So when Finland had left the room to go to the bathroom, Denmark waited a minute or so before before asking Sweden; “Yo, Sve, would ya get some beer from the fridge?”

Sweden nodded curtly and rose from his seat, heading for the door.

Denmark's timing couldn't have been more perfect.

Just as Sweden passed through the door, Finland did the same thing. Denmark jumped to his feet, “Mistletoe!” he grinned like a madman, “Now you have to kiss!”

Sweden looked at Finland who looked back, both caught off guard.

“Denmark...” Norway muttered, massaging his temples. Iceland sighed at his side.

“What?” Denmark turned towards the men in the sofa. “They have to kiss. That's the rules.”

Sweden's gaze shifted from Finland to Denmark to the siblings in the sofa and back to Finland again. Uncertainty flashed in his eyes as he continued to look at Finland with a slight sliver of hope in his eyes.

Finland sighed. Partially because Denmark was an idiot, but mostly because Sweden was so pathetically, adorably stupid - dumb in a way only he could be.

“Ya dun hav'to,” Sweden mumbled, almost unintelligible. Finland sighed.

“Yes, I have to,” he looked up at Sweden, “Christmas tradition.”

Sweden smiled, cupped Finland's face in his hands and brought their lips together in a chaste kiss. Finland returned it, keeping it short and soft.

“I'm still mad at you,” he whispered, low enough for only Sweden to hear.

“My work here is done!” Denmark exclaimed, with an accomplished smile on his lips. Sweden rolled his eyes and went out in the kitchen to get Denmark's beer, Finland went back to his place on the sofa and Denmark flew across the room to grab the mistletoe. “C'mon Nor, it's our turn now!”

He held it over Norway's head and puckered his lips. Norway just looked at him, “No.”

“It's tradition,” Denmark insisted.

“Fine.”

Denmark closed his eyes expectantly. Norway pressed a small peck to Iceland's cheek instead.
