For the next few days at least, we're all going to be busy with holidays and with the Hetalia Christmas Event and as a way to pass the time I have come up with this challenge.
Warmth for a SmileveltedDecember 26 2011, 12:30:06 UTC
(( This is an AU story! I apologise for taking so long, been having a bit of a block >< I hope I got the characterisations somewhat right and that you enjoy this, despite me having done a terrible job on it xD ))
"Are you cold?"
Natalya blinked at the voice that came up from behind her. She turned to see who it was and there stood Meiling; a girl her age with dark brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. Meiling smiled at her and Natalya responded by pretending she didn't see her, turning right back to face the fireplace.
Meiling is different from the other orphans who, like Natalya, had fair hair and fair skin. She is special and therefore, an outcast. The other children avoided her and Natalya was no exception.
The fire continued to burn, fighting a losing battle against the harsh winter winds that blew outside. It wasn't enough. Natalya shivered a little and sneezed. It was then she felt a thick material floating down to her shoulders. She looked up, only to see Meiling smiling down to her.
"Don't be shy now!" she said cheerfully as she sat down beside Natalya and crawled into the blanket to join her. Natalya would have pushed her away but the warmth was so inviting that she couldn't help but sigh softly. Her eyes struggled to remain open but after about a minute, she was lost to slumber.
Just before everything turned dark, she thought she felt a weight on her shoulder and two warm arms enveloping her waist.
---
Natalya woke up the next day with the blanket still wrapped around her. She peeled off the material slightly, only to find that Meiling wasn't there anymore.
---
During lunchtime, Meiling, as usual, had the table all to herself. She was used to this, of course, but right now wasn't the time to be feeling depressed! Her stomach demands food! Just as she was about to dig in, she hears the clatter of a plate and utensils beside her. She looked to her side, only to find that Natalya was sitting beside her and taking the first bite of her food. Unsure of how to react, she continued to stare.
"What?" Natalya asked, giving the other a side-glance.
Meiling snapped out of it and gave her a wide smile. "Nothing!"
And just before she turned away, she thought she saw Natalya wearing a small smile.

Thank you c: I was really worried there that I wasn't doing a decent job.
I had initially wanted to do a princess-servant kind of AU where Natalya is a princess in a kingdom that was a recluse from the rest of the world. And Meiling wandered a little too far off from where she was originally from. The worlds that they live in are different. Natalya's in extremely cold and harsh conditions while Meiling's is warm and flowers can actually thrive (beautifully so). The people in Natalya's kingdom are, in general, cold and distant, as is Natalya, who was even colder than most of them.
Meiling wasn't allowed back and she stayed on without any complaints, and served as a personal servant to Natalya since the King and Queen had no use for her. She then tells stories about the world where she came from, and one day mentioned about flowers. Natalya, having trapped in the castle of that kingdom for too long, doesn't know what it is and Meiling was surprised. So then Meiling began to work on the square and grew Camellia Sasanqua, which sort of has the same purple colour with Natalya's eyes? She brought her there and well, fluff ensues.
But there were a lot of things I couldn't work around, so I decided to switch to this in the end xD But thank you so much, I'm really relieved you think that way ;u;

Ohh, that sounds really pretty! If it helps both settings really appeal to me. So either with what you wrote or your original idea I am a pleased little plum ^_^
