Summary: The German brothers exchange Christmas gifts…
For Vexed with love…
Germany opened the present Prussia handed to him. It was the last one and it could either be a very good present, or the worst present ever. While they were separated after WWII, this tradition took hold and they continued it even after they were reunited after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The idea that it could be a very good or very bad present also dated from that time, with Germany sending his brother good presents and Prussia, unable to really afford anything on the black market as well as being afraid that nice things would never make it across the border, giving bad presents. Their first Christmas together, however saw the start of a twist to that tradition, with each brother never knowing if they were getting an awful gag gift or a really nice one. Like last year, Germany got the latest book by his favorite romance author and two years ago he got a hideous neon green t-shirt with a dog lifting his leg on a fire hydrant and peeing emblazoned on it. But that’s not to say, he never got his brother anything bad. One year he had gotten him a fake pile of dog poop, that Prussia found hilarious, another year it was a rubber chicken.
Now, as Germany sat there with the package in hand, he wondered what it was. Prussia’s smirk of anticipation was not helping either. He smiled weakly at his brother.
“Go on, West! Open it! I promise it’s not going to explode this time.”
Germany shook his head at him. He looked down at the present and carefully began removing the paper.
“Mein Gott, West! Just rip it!!”
Germany nodded and closing his eyes, he began ripping the paper off. When the box was free of paper, he opened it. Nestled inside was another brightly wrapped gift. He looked at his brother. “Prussia?”
“Open it!”
Germany opened that one to find another gift box nestled inside. He repeated his actions until he reached the final box. It was tiny, no bigger than one containing a gift card and Germany opened it, half excepting to find a collection of dead bugs. He was very surprised to find a gift card saying he belonged to the beer of the month club. Germany chuckled as he had gotten his brother the same thing, although, he was not as creative in wrapping it. “Danke, Bruder.”
“You’re welcome!” Prussia raised an eyebrow as he wondered what his last gift would be. He figured even if Germany got him a gag one, the beer would be a nice consolation gift when it arrived next month.
Germany reached under the tree and pulled out a tiny box, handing it to his brother.
“Don’t tell me you got me some dead bugs, West!” Prussia smirked as he opened it. He laughed. “Great minds, eh?” Prussia said when he saw the gift card for the beer of the month club.
“Yeah.”
“Fröhliche Weihnachten!” the brothers chorused. They hugged.
