Why This Must Be Read: I don't normally go for original fic nor for historical fic, but this caught me by surprise in a great way. I gave it a try and fell for it easily and quickly, getting caught up in a story about a man mucking his way through political intrigue while falling in love with his (dead) best friend's girl. The characters feel real right out of the gate and the writing is really lovely.

Why This Must Be Read: This fic is so much fun. It's an AU, set in the 1940's, where Chuck is the down-on-his-luck PI who gets mixed up in some serious business. Various Chuck characters make memorable appearances and the language is fantastic from start to finish, with plenty of great, noir-y-esque imagery.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a dark and kind of gutting fic, but completely consuming and well worth it. Jeff and Britta's lives fall apart and things go very downhill - yet in a way that you'll find yourself totally going along with. The word choices are gorgeous, and coming out of this fic is like coming up for air and wondering where you are.
