Why This Must Be Read: The Veronica Mars Movie introduced a new character to VM cancon that sunk my otp in a fairly big way, but if there's one thing every Weevil fan knows - if Eli Navarro married her, Jade Navarro is one hell of a woman. This tiny gem shows us who Jade is, and the struggle she faces in coming to terms with Neptune, and her husband's old life as Weevil after the events of the movie. The gorgeous imagery alone makes it readable; the perfectly nuanced understanding of these characters makes it unforgettable.

Why This Must Be Read: Two interconnecting stories (the Done By Me series) that fill in the nine years between the close of Season 3 and the Veronica Mars Movie, answering that all important question - who ARE these people and how did they come into being? Waste of Breath is a love poem to Logan Echolls as he reinvents himself as a naval aviator; A Quartz Contentment is Veronica's path through a psych major at Stanford, law school at Columbia, her exile in New York and return to Neptune. The two stories overlap gloriously in the moments Veronica and Logan are reunited in post-movie bliss. So well crafted and perfectly Logan and Veronica that it goes straight to headcanon.

Why This Must Be Read: Piz is the most maligned character in the Veronica Mars universe, and his reappearance in the movie caused much frothing at the mouth in Veronica Mars land - here, ghostcat sets out to understand Piz, and Veronica, and what they might be to each other. But what really makes this story special is the delicious glimpse we get of Lilly and Veronica's friendship as Veronica shares a memory with Piz. This story is part of ghostcat's outstanding All Things Go series, each part of which stands on its own as well as slotting into the whole.
