Why This Must Be Read: I don't know about anyone else but the series finale of Dexter wrung me out. In the end I was watching for the relationship between Dexter and Deb. Recently I set out looking for fanfic to ease the pain of one of my favorite shows ending. Set immediately after 8X05 this story goes in the direction the show never would, with Deb and Dexter becoming a couple. I liked the author's take on Dexter being hesitant and honest with Deb as to why. He is also dark and possessive here, and the slow burn and dialogue between the two is wonderful.

I loved the interactions between Deb and Harrison here, and Deb's realizations about who she is and who Dexter is. There's a sense of inevitability here and neither one can fight it.

Though soapier than I usually like and with a few typos, there is something nice about getting lost in a long story. The author has a good grasp on all the characters voices, and there's lots of dialogue. This one serves as a lengthy distraction from the sadness that comes from a favorite show ending.
