Why This Must Be Read: "The title comes from an old Hindi movie- it means 'the lover gets the bride'. Traditionally, Indian films depicted young couples going against their parents and incurring their families' wrath in order to marry for love. In DDLJ, by contrast, the protagonist refuses to elope with his lady love, instead winning over her family by showing them that he's a good man. It was one of my favourite movies as a child and one I thought an appropriate title for Colby and Amita's relationship." Tamanna makes Amita and Colby into a loving couple using her own background to develop Amita as a strong Indian woman.
