I've been wanting them to happen since I first watched the show because of this:

It will be such a shame if we never get that from them; a phenomenal waste of chemistry and love that would put Pilot!Stefan to shame for ever telling Caroline that they weren't gonna happen. Because of course, they are.

And I won't give up hope, for all the reasons you've mentioned, and many more!

Thanks for the fics rec, I think I've read a few, but I also see many I haven't, and it is hard to find good Steroline fics :)
You should check/add to the list Lint's: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/42112/ He's the one who pointed me in this direction, and both his fics and his portrayal of Steroline are perfect.

Great defense of the ship - I have loved them as a couple ever since she turned, but I think it is neat how you take it back to day one. The idea of her 'sneaking up' on him emotionally, romantically, is perfect.
