Lots of crossovers (X-Files, Matrix, Gargoyles, Beauty and the Beast, Lois and Clark)
These are all crossovers between two or more fandoms. I decided to just group them into one post instead of breaking them down, especially since they have a lot of fandoms in common.

Why This Must Be Read: Demona finds herself Below in human form after a fight with Goliath. Vincent assumes she's a battered wife and takes her side, promising to protect her. In the meantime, Diana Bennett is assigned to investigate the gargoyle sightings in New York, and deduces that Elisa is the best place to start.
It's really fun for me to see these two shows come together in this story, because they're relatively similar thematically, but they view the Demona/Goliath relationship completely differently. From Vincent's point of view, Demona becomes a victim and a hero and Goliath becomes a violent aggressor.
There are a couple of sequels to this story if you are interested, although the full series was never completed.

Why This Must Be Read: Mulder and Scully are tasked with profiling and apprehending the terrorist known as Neo.
These two fandoms fold together really well. Mulder, searching for "the truth", fits right in with the massive conspiracy of the Matrix. And viewed from the outside, Neo and Trinity's actions in the first movie are really extreme and would certainly be alarming to Mulder and Scully. (Also, the ending of this story is so obviously the right way to go and yet so very much not what I wanted to happen.)
(I wouldn't call this one gen, because the relationships are important to the plot, but I wouldn't call it a romance, either. So if that's what you're looking for, this one might not be to your taste.)

Also, Lois and Clark have already worked through some of the issues that Vincent and Catherine are struggling with, so they have some really good conversations.

This is my favorite crossover ever. It is just so expertly woven together, all the different pieces coming together exactly right (and all the characters putting the pieces together just slightly wrong as they struggle to make sense of it all). There are even a couple bonus fandoms tossed in for cameos.
This one might be just slightly over the line between het and gen, but I'm recommending it anyway because it is just that awesome.
