I was going to post for this challenge, but exam week happened, and. Well. It's only the 18th though, so I'm squeaking in on time!

Genre: Angst
WIP?: Nope, oneshot
Why This Must Be Read: This is hands down my favourite fanfic in all of the X-Men's various fandoms. Set after the events of X-2, Scott does his best to cope with his loss. You know the one.
ridesandruns is probably best known for the witty, funny dialogue in her fanfics, but here she takes a different angle and delves into Scott's head. It's features a very powerful Scott voice, beautiful framing using his horses, and it has made me cry every single time I read it. It's definitely worth your time to read.
Fandom Category: X-Men (General comics/616-verse)
Pairing: Jean Grey/Scott Summers
Fic Title: Whispered Word
Author: StrangeAffinity

Genre: Pure romance
WIP?: No.
Why This Must Be Read: Because the writing is lyrical and the imagery stunning? This looks at the X-Men in their early years, specifically focusing on Jean and Scott's growing bond. It weaves their backstories in, and touches on their pasts with great sensitivity. The other original X-Men all make cameos too, and they are delightfully well-characterised.
Fandom Category: X-Men: Evolution
Pairing: Jean Grey/Scott Summers, minor onesided Rogue/Scott
Fic Title: In the Orbit of Mars

Genre: Adventure
WIP?: No.
Why This Must Be Read: The author's summary is: "Season 4. When Scott disappears, Jean and Rogue have to work together to save him. Um... this could be bad." This story focuses on Jean and Rogue and their background tension, but the romance is twined so strongly in, it's hard to imagine how the fic would go without Scott's presence. The author's writing style is also strangely addictive. It you want a nice, plotty, well-characterized story in the X-Men fandom that takes both gen and romance into account, it's this one. The author switches between POVs, and it's remarkable how different each girl's voice sounds.
Fandom Category: X-Men (movieverse)

Genre: Pure romance
WIP?: Yes, oneshot series.
Why This Must Be Read: This is part of the "Whispers" series. This story, in particular, expands a series of oneshots that has already been finished. It was written before the Wolverine movie -- hence Gambit and Rogue aren't very far in age. Honestly, I'm not the biggest Gambit/Rogue fan in the world, but this author writes them so sensually, so perfectly, I cannot help but love it. I love that the canon pairings are taken into account and dealt with carefully. I love everyone's cameos. I love the author's construction of each scene and section, for maximum effectiveness. I love watching Gambit and Rogue develop. While this story hasn't been updated for a while, it's still definitely worth checking out.
