The Mentalist, Nine Recs, Lisbon/Jane
So I admit, I saved this pairing for last. They're my favorite ship at the moment, and I could probably put together an entire month's worth of recs just for them. A few of my very favorites have already been recced, so I definitely suggest going back through the tags. Anyway, here are the last of my recs for the month and a few bonus recs because I couldn't help myself :)

Why This Must Be Read: Yes, this is a loose Jane Austen adaptation, but it's not an AU fic. Lisbon betrays Jane's trust in order to take Red John down without Jane ending up either dead or in prison. A year later, a case forces them to work together again. The adaptation of Jane Austen's character plot works SO very well for Jane and Lisbon, as does the tone of the original novel. The case is interesting and only adds to the character plot. This fic is incredibly well-planned and well-developed. And I'm actually one of the people mentioned in the Author's Note in the first chapter, the contingent who is convinced that Lisbon is more a Persuasion person than P&P. As a bonus, this includes Jane's very own modernized version of The Letter -- on an origami frog.

Why This Must Be Read: Summary - The 7 Deadly Sins are said to be a plague on the human soul. For Jane and Lisbon, this may be the literal truth. This fic looks at some of the darker aspects of the characters, which is natural given its premise, without veering off into soap opera territory and avoiding some of the cliches you might expect with sins such as jealousy or lust.

There are a handful of chapters that have to do with Cho and Rigsby (and then Van Pelt at the very end), but this is primarily a Jane/Lisbon fic. One of the best first meeting scenes I've read in fic by far.
