Why This Must Be Read: This fic is almost eight years old now, and I can still remember the mingled feeling of joy and disappointment the day the last chapter of As Long As There Are Stars was posted to FF.net. Joy that it was so perfect, disappointment that it was over.
So It Goes is the story of how President and Dr. Bartlett met, many, many years before they were President and Dr. Bartlett.
Jed and Abbey are beautifully realized young, idealistic, stubborn, ambitious people who meet-cute and fall in love despite themselves, their families, their baggage - well, Jed's baggage and Abbey's boyfriend - and their planned futures.
The people they will become are so evident in the people they are in this story - and in some ways that's ironic, considering the way they start out. It's incredible that a story set thirty-some-odd years pre-cannon can be so in character.
