Why This Must Be Read: Return Part 1 based. Athosians. Potential goodbyes. I love this fic so much, and okay, disclosure, it was written for me for the sg_rarepairings two years ago. But don't let my bias fool you, this fic is wonderful. The author captured Teyla's voice remarkably well, and especially her thoughts on the Ancients. I also loved that though Return necessitates some amount of angst, she didn't turn this into some type of angst-ridden thing. There was humor and that lovely sense of bonding between R/T that I love so much.

The tent flap was struck to one side as Ronon stomped in. He toed off his boots and shed his vest before dropping down beside her on the bed. Teyla bounced slightly on the mattress as he landed. "This sucks."

Teyla's lips quirked. Ronon had adopted the speech patterns of their friends far more easily than she had, but then she'd learned that the Satedan dialect he'd grown up with was far closer to their patterns than her own. She recalled the expedition members with a touch of sadness as well as warm thoughts. A year ago Ronon had been a new aspect of her life, full of anger, fire, passion and a bemused confusion with John and Rodney that she knew all too well. "I agree."

Ronon grunted and flopped back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. Teyla turned and waited to see if he would speak his mind. Finally he let out a long breath and turned his head slightly so he could meet her eyes. "This is killing me."

"You are dying?"

Ronon rolled his eyes, a universal gesture if ever there was one it seemed.

Teyla reached out and drew a hand across his forehead, smoothing the furrowed lines away before she folded her hands in her lap.

"Sick of this. Marking time. We should do more." One of Ronon's hands balled into a fist even as his eyes narrowed in directionless determination.

"Marking time?"

Ronon shrugged, shoulders relaxing slightly. "Marching in place in a drill. Sometimes for hours while the commanders discussed things." A small smile graced his lips. "Sheppard and I both had to do it." He shrugged, the small smile fading almost instantly. "It's a military thing."

Teyla nodded slowly. "I do not know what else we can do that wouldn’t be suicide," she murmured. "And I would not lose you to some ill-thought act." She added weight to the last. She had already lost so much. It would be heartbreaking to lose Ronon too.

Ronon's eyes twinkled under his scowl. "You're stuck with me."

"Am I?" Teyla tilted her chin and looked down at him in challenge.

In a flash he'd hauled her under him. "Yeah."
