Shipper Manifesto: House x Cameron [House, M.D.]

Apr 30, 2010 21:34

Fandom: House, M.D.
Pairing: House x Cameron

Blurb: When I first started watching House last year, I was kind of struck by House and Cameron. In their scenes, they just seemed to fit so well together. Needless to say, I’ve always been disappointed with the direction the show goes in regards to these two (none whatsoever), and I’m not at all happy about the firing of Jennifer Morrison. In fact, I’m not currently watching the show (except in those blessed Season 1-3 reruns). However, House x Cameron is still an amazing ship to me. (And the fanfiction is way better than the show anyway!)

So here are my top ten. They are in no particular order, because there’s no way I could pick one over the other. (It was hard enough just picking ten.) I hope you enjoy them!

Fic Rec #1: Parts of a declaration
Author: “mute_mime”
Link: One of three
Rating/Warning(s): AU, M for rape and violence

Why This Must Be Read: This piece uses powerful language and vivid images to paint a strong portrait of a different path for House and Cameron’s relationship. In some ways, it reads more like poetry than prose-sentences are divided with line breaks for emphasis, with some words placed by themselves on a line-but for me, at least, this only serves to make the piece that much more impressive.

Fic Rec #2 Miscalculation
Author: “yutamiyu”
Link: One-shot
Rating/Warning(s): M for sexual content.

Why This Must Be Read: Quite frankly, this fic shows that there’s more than any kind of love between these two. They have a connection, but it’s not always a clear and pretty one. It also does a good job of exploring Cameron’s mindset after the events of “Maternity.”

Fic Rec #3: Proximity
Author: “sgr11”
Link: One of three
Rating/Warning(s): M for sexual content.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a sort of AU look at how a secret relationship between House and Cameron could have gone. It assumes that after the Date from Hell (their dinner-thing in Episode 20, for those who don’t watch), House began visiting Cameron at her house, and a relationship formed thus. It uses an interesting style of second-person narration to get the reader’s mind into things, and handles the Stacy issue in a realistic way. (And, okay, the last chapter is just cute. I won’t spoil it, but it’s heart-wrenchingly adorable.)

Fic Rec #4: Confessions of a Red Mug
Author: Amanda9
Link: One-shot
Rating/Warning(s): G.

Why This Must Be Read: This fic is exactly what you’d expect from the title: a look at House and Cameron through the eyes of a red mug. It’s always refreshing to see a relationship from a different character’s point of view, but this takes it a step further with good results.

Fic Rec #5: it serves you right to suffer
Author: “enots”
Link: One-shot
Rating/Warning(s): M for sexual content.

Why This Must Be Read: To put it bluntly, I like to read a good sex scene every now and then. And this is a good sex scene. M’kay? Great. (And there is a plot. Somewhere. Kind of. Ish.)

Fic Rec #6: Five White Lies
Author: “fated_addiction”
Link: One of fifteen (some chapters are broken into multiple parts)
Rating/Warning(s): M for sexual content. (How many have we had with that warning so far…?)

Why This Must Be Read: I’ll be honest: I had a little trouble picking just one story from this author, because I love so so much of her stuff. But I was trying to be fair and not focus too much on just one or two. Branching out is good. So, anyway, I did finally pick just this one. Strangely, I picked it mostly because it was written so early in the series. It was written before we had Half-Wit (ahhhhhh) or the motorcycle moment (ahhhhhh again) or any of the fluffy wonderful moments we hold so dear. And yet it is still beautifully amazing, because with only the early episodes to build off of, there are all sorts of new moments in this story.

Fic Rec #7: Let me see you stripped down to the bone
Author: “teenwitch77”
Link: One of two
Rating/Warning(s): PG.

Why This Must Be Read: The basic plot: Cameron gets into a car accident on her way home from the hospital, which causes various things to happen and be revealed. (I don’t want to give too much away…) There are beautiful moments and heartbreaking moments and moments where I just wanted to cry as much as someone in the story was. Overall a very lovely fic. (And I spent twenty minutes searching the Internet for it because I couldn’t find it. So you know it’s good.)

Fic Rec #8: Oven Roasted Revenge
Author: “athousandsmiles”
Link: One-shot
Rating/Warning(s): T.

Why This Must Be Read: Okay, this was a Secret Santa fic for me, and you might accuse me of being biased. But it’s cute, it’s fluffy, and it features a real live chicken. What more could you ask for?

Fic Rec #9: Fragments
Author: “blueheronz”
Link: One-shot
Rating/Warning(s): T.

Why This Must Be Read: The author’s note says that this is a series, but it’s never been updated past Chapter One (at least not on that site). However, the chapter that’s there easily stands on its own and is quite lovely; beautiful language and flowing prose make for a good read.

Fic Rec #10: Accident Reconstruction
Author: “surreallis”
Link: One-shot
Rating/Warning(s): T.

Why This Must Be Read: Contains a healthy mix of angst and physical interaction between House and Cameron. And it has some Wilson/Cameron conversation, which makes everything better.
