A Song of Ice and Fire, 18 recs, Jon/Sansa
More mini-manifesto time?? So I've been wanting to write a manifesto for this pairing for like....2 years. >.> But I also recognize that I am the absolutely LEAST qualified person to do this, seeing as I haven't read a single word of the books, and the most I've seen of the show is cuts from Youtube and gifsets on Tumblr. But as is the story of my life, I read one fic and then lost a couple of weeks of my life reading all the rest of the fic. Jon/Sansa writers brought their A-game, man!
And then!!!! Season 6 of "Game of Thrones" happened!!! And Jon and Sansa were finally reunited!!!! And hugged!! And supported and argued with each other as they plotted and battled to take back Winterfell!!! And had inappropriate chemistry with each other!!! So much so that several reviewers and entertainment websites are wondering: is Jon/Sansa going to be A Thing????
Will the show go there?? Who knows?? But Jon/Sansa fans have been sailing this ship for 8 years or so now and will continue to do so no matter what happens in canon. But it's been glorious (even to yours truly, the most casual of fans) to see all this Jon/Sansa canon interaction and the excitement of the Jon/Sansa fandom. :D
So why ship Jon/Sansa? Why could they potentially be canon? One incredibly prescient fan wrote a (book-only) meta-piece back in 2013 here which makes a very thoughtful and compelling case for the pairing. Other fans have also noted the parallels between Ned/Catelyn and Jon/Sansa. These are all excellent thoughts! But also people ship them because they want nice things for Sansa and Jon and they're pretty together :P

Why This Must Be Read: Oh man, this is THE Jon/Sansa fic, the can-this-be-canon?-it-FEELS-like-canon fic. It is 96K of glorious slow burn and poorly suppressed yearning and it's just. SO MUCH. Why This Must Be Read: This is the fic that sucked me into this fandom. After all the terrible men she's had to deal with in her life, Sansa is understandably skittish in bed, no matter how gentle or careful Jon tries to be. To make her comfortable, he offers to let her do whatever she wants to him while he's tied to the bed. And since he can't use his hands, he uses his words to tell her how much he wants her and what he would do to her if he were untied. THIS IS SO UNBELIEVABLY HOT. Everything honey_wheeler writes is amazing and you should read them all.

Why This Must Be Read: The next time Jon sees Sansa, she's rebuilding Winterfell and he's been sent by Daenerys, the Queen, to make a political marriage with Sansa to secure the North. I like the careful progression of their relationship. Sansa is understandably wary at first and things are naturally awkward given the many years they were separated and the fact that they were never that close to begin with. But they come to an understanding and eventually make their truest and most honest connection in their marriage bed. This is lovely and you should definitely read everything else thefairfleming has written.

So Arya takes Lyanna's place and was engaged to Joffrey until she eloped with/was kidnapped by Aegon. When Robb and his father Brandon Stark go down to take Arya back, the Mad King Rhaegar kills them, and now Jon, son of Ned and Ashara Dayne, has to marry Robb's betrothed, Sansa Tully.
