Killjoys and New Blood

TV has been good to me this week :D. Just hope I can write some decent fic from all this.

So Killjoys came back and it was AMAZING and did basically everything I wanted.

Spoilers below

FANCY IS NOT DEAD! YAY! I'd been worried because it took me until last week to even find a hint that Sean Baek was still in the show, but he was, and even better he is Level 6 now and possibly functionally immortal (yes I was a Highlander fan back in the day, why do you ask?) until we find out how you can kill Level 6s. There is also (to my mind) some mystery around how much free will Level 6s have, so possible mind control in the mix too. I need to rewatch the episode to try to fix it in my brain a bit more (for fic purposes).

D'avin is apparently immune to the Level 6 stuff somehow, which presumably has something to do with the experiments done on him before? If so, all these shady people really should have co-ordinated their shady tactics a bit better.

PREE IS AMAZING. Excellent writing choice bumping him up to one of the main group, long may it continue. The entire sequence on Eulogy was so good.

OMG MODIFIED HUMANS YES. LOVED Clara (and Alice, obvs), she needs to come back. I wish she'd stuck around, I love Stephanie Leonidas.

All this AND Westerly Old Town is cordoned off and no-one can get in or out? Aaaaaaaaah \o/ \o/

Loved the episode, can't wait for the rest (NB I am going to say this now in case I'm right and I want to go HA! later but there seemed to be a bit in the s2 trailer where Johnny went to kiss Dutch and if that happens I would like it to be at the very least a sign that something is wrong/he's not himself and not an actual kiss, kthx).

I sort of want an episode where Khylen is with them for reasons and they're all stuck on Lucy and everyone is tense and possibly Fancy is there too (and pissed off, because he's had all this shit done to him and then D'avin shoots him a bunch of times without explaining anything). Idk, I might give it a few more episodes then write fic.

In other news, there's a show called New Blood which is on BBC One and iplayer which EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH. It's a crime procedural with an odd couple and it's ridiculously charming.

The premise is as follows:

He (Stefan) is a Polish guy working undercover for the Serious Fraud Office! Other he (Rash) is an Iranian guy who’s a trainee detective in the Met! They fight crime!

There are spoilers below, including one for a really tense scene, so I don't recommend reading on if you haven't seen the first story yet.

The leads are so fucking cute it's almost unbearable and it's been touted as a bit of a bromance (haaaaaate that term) but they could just drop the B without much fuss. They're super into each other. Rash saves Stefan's life and then takes him home and looks after him! They are pointlessly competitive all the time! THEY JUMP OFF A FUCKING ROOF INTO A SWIMMING POOL TOGETHER! Stefan asks Rash to buy a house with him (note, not get a flatshare, buy a house - that's a long term commitment, people).

Rash is just a darling, and my usual character type so he is obviously my fave (oh, does he try to do the right thing and want to do a good job and is he generally exasperated in Stefan's direction all the time? Yes), and Stefan is more outgoing and knows he's cute, and they both do triathlons and are therefore quite fit, which does not hurt.

Some of the procedural stuff is complete bobbins, but the show is charming enough that it can get away with it (there's a moment where Stefan and his boss fistbump in front of their boss and I thought it was great, that's how far gone I am).

The actors are generally great, and most of them are recognisable except for the two leads (also possibly Stefan's boss, I need to get back on imdb again) so playing spot-the-actor is fun. There's a mini Atlantis reunion with Hercules and Ariadne both in the show, although their characters haven't met or anything. Also Simone Lahibi is playing Rash and Leila's mum, which is weird because in my head she's definitely not old enough for that.

I have only watched the first story so far but am really looking forward to the second. I hope it involves house-sharing shenanigans galore (I'd say also kissing, but I know that won't happen, boooooooo).  This entry was originally posted at http://hestia8.dreamwidth.org/72414.html.
