Take a deep breath and a good look around...

Hey all...

So classes start tomorrow. I was set back over 400 bucks for my books... new texts for both Music History and French. But hey... at least I get musics!

I think I've decided that taking the summer off from classes is a bad idea for me. I've really stagnated all summer... doing nothing productive in any respect. I only work one day a week maybe and I haven't worked on music, read anything, written anything (Sweet fuck don't get me started about writing... that's a whole post unto itself) About all I've accomplished is getting together Dragon*Con costumes for Charlie and myself (more on that later). I'm ready for classes... if only just to get my lazy ass in gear.

So yeah... no more summers off for me. On top of needing to keep busy, I do have this degree I'd like to finish at some point.

So yeah... I mentioned costumes. Behind the cut is an

Stars are by the things that have changed. X's by the things finished.

As I mentioned before, Charlie's big costume is Atrus from the Myst games. The status so far is:

*X Shirt: Finished, tried on and authenticated as made of pure awesome
X Pants: have.
* Boots: bought a pair online advertised as 'mid calf'. Turned out to be knee high and Charlie can't zip them around his calf muscle. We are velcroing a leather strip around them to avoid cutting a perfectly good pair of boots that I can wear too.
* Goggles: Arrived and are also made of pure awesome. Need a new elastic strap across the back.
Belt: Need... will probably buy at Walmart since we need to glue tools to it and it won't be reusable.
X Various character tools: Have found all of them.
X Glasses: using a pair of my mom's reading glasses
Myst Book: Finished and I'm DAMN proud of it, if I do say so myself.

Charlie's second costume is the easier of the two as we don't really have to do much. He is, of course, going as Arthur Dent from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Robe: Have one
Towel: Have one... complete with duckies on it of course.
Teacup: Have, with tea bag
*XFlannel PJ bottoms: Have
Slippers: Need.
The Guide: Debating on how to do it.

My first costume is Sabriel from the book by Garth Nix of the same name.

* Tunic: Nearly finished. Mom has sewn it, and needs to put the chainmail detail at the collar. Then, I need to paint on the key pattern.
X Pants: Have.
X Boots: Have.
* Bandolier: Lira and I worked on it a bit today. The belt is dyed and the leather is laid out... design has been decided on. The soft leather for the bell-holders needs to be cut and dyed.
Charter Mark: I'm looking at concealer pencils, since the mark is sort of a brand or a scar.
Belt: Have the belt and I need to make the face for it. I'll probably work on that with Lira the day we work on the bandolier.
Hair: I'm dyeing my hair black. Still need to make an appointment.

My second costume is a dual purposer. I was thinking of just doing an elaborate gypsy costume with tattoos and everything and having it double as what I would wear to the drum circle, but as with all things cool, it grew. During the day of the con, I'm doing a Ritualist from the game GuildWars. I've wanted to do one for a long long time. Just do a Google image search. They look way cool and it would be complicated for anyone who's not a bellydancer and already in possession of nearly all the gear. Then in the evening, off comes the hood and away goes the staff. Down comes the hair and on go the facial tattoos. Poof! Ready for the drum circle. Plus I have practically everything I need.

X Skirt: Have. Black satin circle and a half skirt
X Top: Have. Black satin bra with a beaded gold and black sheer overlay
X Belt: Have. Black with gold coins
X Shoes: Bought a pair for a dollar at the craft store
X Jewelry: Have... various gold bangly things. I might consider getting a gold belly ring though if the silver one I wear is tacky looking.
X* Staff: Finished it today. A black bamboo pole topped with a glass bottle, painted with Chinese characters with stings of bone and wooden beads hanging from it.
* Hair wrap: I have the sheer fabric (it was on the sale... only set me back 3 bucks!) and I made the bead strand for wearing over it.
-Tattoos: I'll need black paint for the body and liquid eyeliner for my face

Very nearly done... work work...

Well... I need to get to bed. Class tomorrow at 10:30. I'm so ready.

Love and Cookies,

Birdie
