For
sweetinaskirt The Gods truly hated Leonard McCoy. Of this much, he was sure. He was sure that any brief chance of happiness that may come his way, was soon to be trampled on by a pack of hell hounds determined to break him. Even the little things were counteracted with a crock of shit to break his mood once it had become something good. A good drink of whiskey usually turned into something like scraping a drunken Jim from the flood and occupying himself with caring for the overgrown child that he called his friend. A delightful evening with a woman usually turned into her going for a less polite man because she preferred a bad boy, or into a strange stalking situation. He'd had to change his PADD number twice at the academy alone. From girls he'd never even kissed!
And now. Now he had a chance to make a fresh start. Away from Jocelyn, away from the heartbreak and perpetual dissapointment that he was on Earth. But then there she was. The first girl to ever break his heart. There, either not remembering him - he'd obviously not been that important - or pretending not to remember, just like him. There she was, looking as beautiful as ever. The few lines on her face didn't take away from her beauty. If anything they added to it.
What made it worse was the fact she had been assigned to medical - HIS medical bay - to assist with the required paperwork to accompany the repairs needed to bring the medical bay back to being the very best in the fleet. So he had to speak to her. Every damn day. She would be assigned to the Enterprise, just like him. So for five damn years she'd be there. A constant reminder of how he had not been quite good enough for her.
He was trying his best to avoid her. His best to not look at her, to not talk to her. It was a challenge, but one he - thusfar - thought he was succeeding with.
