donkey encounter on our hike Originally uploaded by
herzchen i went on a hike a few weeks ago (the day after injuring my foot, but luckily, OTC painkillers & an ace bandage saved the day!) and at one point, we encountered an ass on the trail.
i've just started catching up uploading photos onto flickr... i'm still behind on a few different levels though, esp. since i took a bunch at a funeral for my friend's 98 y/o grandmother today and have a bunch from my week in grenada.
anyway,
may 12 was a fun day up north for me; at some points, especially on the drive from where the hike ended, it felt like we were on top of world... then we spontaneously attended the latter rounds of a football tournament in portsy, dominica's 2nd town on the NW coast. we got food here and there, picked up a huge bag of coffee beans in alissa's former village of residence, etc. also while there in dublanc, we met up with a friend of alissa's nicknamed 'freaky.' hee hee.
and when we finally left to return to our respective homes, i took a turn riding in the back/bed of panman & alissa's 'van' (pick-up truck) with the teenage boys.
we saw some of our PC colleagues @the tournament: will & crystal, who told us about how they were marinating bats for supper. will showed me some gross pics that i saved to my folder on our PCV office computer the other day -- they make me gag (and for the record, he said that the bats tasted like ass-nasty giblets; and no, not many people around here eat them, even among those who have easy access to bat caves...).
in portsy, i also got to give a sweaty hug to the former boyfriend of an RPCV friend of mine; he's a sweetie.
and i took some pics of an adorable little girl whose mom asked me to email them to her, which i did -- she just sent me an e-thank you. :)
we saw but did not bathe in the cold sulphur springs... what a weird place.
not to turn saccharine on you but all in all, it was an excellent day trip with a 'multifarious'/heterogeneous, interracial/cultural group of variously-aged old and new pals.
by the way / FYI, alissa served here as a PCV a few years ago and married a host country national; they live here in d/ca.
