20070114 KEEP GATE CLOSED
Originally uploaded by tspauld. it was a whirlwind of a week (err, 9 days), my friends.

of course the time i spent at each of the 3 schools i visited was valuable--talking to faculty, staff and current students, sitting in on classes... it was all very exciting. am about 75-80+% positive that i want to go to law school either in my hometown (davis) or nearby in the capitol (at mcgeorge, in a semi-dodgy neighborhood a couple miles from downtown sacramento).

i had a blast seeing, chilling, eating/drinking & going out w/old friends, catching up with friends of my mom's i've not gotten to know well as an adult before, dashing around, taking the caltrain & amtrak, getting rides & cushy guest rooms, taking photos (to be uploaded 'soon'), walking down memory lanes, being visited by my dad and my grandma martha respectively, eating thai food & sushi - among many other things (e.g. baker's square skillet, ciocolat croissant & dark chocolate cake, murder burger & onion rings, plenty of lattes...), getting back on a bicycle (literally & figuratively), etc. :0)

i ran into an old friend from high school at berkeley somewhat coincidentally/randomly and though we didn't have more than 3 min. to talk and hug, it was somehow gratifying.

almost forgot (because it feels like a natural extension of me and didn't hurt for longer than a couple hours, i suppose--like a shallow scratch/cut): i got a tattoo.
i've been planning on this for a couple of years and i felt ready and found the "right" artist, a young woman working out of a new-to-her office space near where the cafe roma used to be / chipotle and baskin robbins downtown...

i spent one v. enjoyable evening and morning with my newly retired and very talented, artistic, social and fun jr. high school german teacher. and got to know her husband and son a little. and watched an episode of american idol w/frau.

i *tried* not to sweat the small stuff.

i made a new friend. we spent lots of should-have-been-sleeping hours together over a 38-hour period.

i'm also glad to be back in dominica and will try to get some rest this week and let my dichotomous brain let go of some anxieties and focus on "the present" for the remainder of my peace corps service, as much as is possible/desirable!

it's been a head trip, i tell ya. not much relaxing or resting took place.

omgoddess and i saw that new hugh grant / drew barrymore movie 'music and lyrics' and "loved" it and already downloaded a song hugh sings in it as his 80's pop star character. yummy and LOL funny.
i would've liked to see 'the lives of others' and 'zodiac' as well, but simply didn't have time.

::deep breaths::
