So when my mother moved in with us, she brought two birds, a dog, and a fish. A day before Sandy, one bird died. Very sudden, caught a chill, got sick, did the whole baby bird squeaking noises for two days and died. In the transfer of stuff during Sandy, her fish died. About a month after Sandy, her dog, whom granted was old, had cancer, and was just generally old as fuck for a dog her size, had to be put down. A few weeks ago, her remaining bird, which she's had since I was 3 years old, got her foot caught in her cage. She rubbed all the skin of her leg off trying to get free. We had to cut the cage away from her it was so swollen and just generally not good. Been giving her antibiotics, trying to keep her spirits up, feeding her fattening things that birds aren't really supposed to eat just so we can get her to gain weight as she is getting thinner. She had been getting better, but at the same time, not much function has returned to the leg.

She started the baby bird chirps.

This bird is not just a bird, this is a sibling. I grew up with this bird. Part of the family for 27 years.

This sucks because we know it's coming now and it just sucks.
