Oklahoma's been pretty good. Very hot, and surprisingly humid. Getting up to about 100 this weekend. Work is ok, except having to be up and ready to go by about 0715. There are 40 cadets here. Actually about 3 from SC, even one from Lexington who goes to Clemson. It's kinda cool hearing about other Dets and how they're run -- the similarities and differences. We all have our own rooms, which are pretty nice.
This week we were split up into smaller groups and were assigned to different Operations Squadrons. Tinker AFB focuses mostly on Air Battle Managers, so that's what most of the Ops people are involved in. ABMs basically tell all the other planes where to go, what threats are in the air, and what to attack or bomb. Like their title implies, they basically manage battles in the air. We've gotten an in depth tour of an E-3 Sentry, aka an AWACS. (Yeah, lots of acronyms.)
PT sessions have consisted of games, so that's fun: softball, basketball, flag football.
Pizza time mother fuckers!
-------Edited the next day--------
The last line above was writtn by one of my friends here b/c we were getting ready to order pizza and hang out w/ a bunch of other cadets.
It's kind of weird being in uniform every day except weekends. But it makes me really appreciate the weekends and civilian clothes. Yesterday we went to a nearby water park, which was pretty fun. Very relaxing. Today we're going to Oklahoma City and seeing the memorial and then something called Bricktown, which is a big deal.
Things have been pretty busy though with work and hanging out w/ cadets. Tomorrow (Monday), we're actually going on TDY (Temporary Duty or Deoployment) to Moody AFB in southern GA. There we'll be doing the JETO program and get to help fly some T-38 jets, which should be really awesome.
Hope everyone else is having a really good summer. I doubt I'll be updating too much since 1) the internet here is dialup, 2) internet costs a buck a day (you know how cheap I am), and 3) I have very little free time. But I gotta go do laundry. Everybody take it easy and enjoy the summer!
