Drug laws
Alright political people. I want comments on this one. My best friend from elementary school went to jail today. As we got older we had less and less in common, and I really stopped hanging out with him in high school. His family situation has always been rough, his brother has always been in trouble, and I'm sure he suffers from extreme depression. Well, at Christmas he was arrested for cocaine possession. Today was his court hearing, and he was sentenced to six months in jail despite being a first offender. Now, someone explain to me what purpose this punishment serves? He's just a dumb kid that made a mistake. He needs a psychiatrist, not a warden. So what do ya'll think? Can I get some agreement that this is bullshit? You all know I'm no legalization advocate, but I just don't understand how society will benefit from my friend being in jail for half a year. His college career is over. Lord knows what a mess he'll be when he gets out.
