Character's Background (AU!Canon; HP): Kakashi grew up with only his father, his mother's whereabouts were never revealed to him. It was a subject his father was mute on. He was mute on a lot of subjects. They had emigrated from a sparsely populated area in Germany, not far from the edges of Siberia, to England when Kakashi was just a toddler, though he never found out why. His father, a very skilled wizard, gained a very difficult job with the Ministry of Magic, of which Kakashi knew nothing about, only that his job title was tenatively 'Unspeakable.' Perhaps due to some failure during the course of his job, or something else, his father committed suicide when Kakashi was only seven years old. Having no other family that would take him in, Kakashi spent his remaining childhood years at an orphanage.

He had, of course, known he was a wizard his whole life, but his father instilled the importance of secrecy in the boy from the same young age. Secrecy not limited to the Statute of Secrecy; hiding what he was from the muggle population. Thus, during the time spent in the orphanage, Kakashi kept to himself and all the staff members there praised his good behaviour and self-sufficiency. But that self-sufficiency slowly turned to self-dependence to reclusiveness, even as he turned eleven and began his magical education. His intelligence would have guaranteed him a place in Ravenclaw house, but his inherent sense of secrecy and stealthiness, as well as his avarice for knowledge, his drive to succeed and prove himself worthy of his father's name instead placed him in Slytherin. However, Kakashi was not one's usual Slytherin. While his housemates conspired about the dark war rumored to be brewing, and gloated over their families' wealth and class standing, Kakashi did not join in these discussions. He was interested in all kinds of magic, dark not withstanding, but never delved into it the way his classmates did - content simply to read up on the forbidden arts and philosophize about them. His family name was virtually unknown, and his current living situations would hardly be anything to brag about. At first, his classmates found him and intriguing mystery, but after a few years they became bored with his closed-off nature and instead shunned him, even taunted him. He took the isolation with a diplomatic grace and rarely got into tussles with his classmates - however, when one did go so far as to make him snap, they found themselves on the losing side of a very grueling battle, whether magical or physical.

On his summer away from school between his sixth and seventh years, Kakashi only returned to the orphanage for a short while. Afterwards, he spent the next month and a half backpacking around the wilderness nearby. He visited the town in which he'd grown up, and then sought out other places of magical reknown. During this time, he was attacked. Camping in the woods under a full moon, he was attacked and savaged by a werewolf. Though quite incapacitated, he possessed the consitution to preserve his own life and Apparated to St. Mungo's Hospital. There was little they could do for the boy, but cleaned his wounds as best they could and covered the scarring as well as possible, though he would only be able to cover it completely by performing an obscuration on himself daily. Rather than this, Kakashi - with a few weeks left before the school semester - returned to London. He first attempted covering the scars with a tattoo - the silhouette of a wolf prowling down the left side of his jawline, from cheekbone to the corner of his mouth. There was nothing he could do for the slash that bisected his left eye, though, and the magical, red-irised one it was replaced with causes headaches if he leaves it open too long, so he mostly keeps it closed or wears an improvised eyepatch - a strip of black cloth tied round his head at an angle to cover it. Later, though, after speaking to Dumbledore - who assured him that he would be allowed to return to finish his education - he decided it was more prudent to purchase a close fitting mask of light material, that would cover his face from the bridge of his nose to the base of his neck. Thus, much of Kakashi's face is covered and almost never seen by his anyone.

He finished his school years with very high marks, and spent a few years working in various shops while he persued further studies that interested him. Some of the work he did was also unsavory in nature, though he never did anything that would have earned him a place in Azkaban. As word spread of his condition, however, he found it harder and harder to come by work, even dishonest work. As a last resort, he appealed to Dumbledore, knowing well that the likelihood of anyone wanting a werewolf teaching the youth of today was highly unlikely. To his surprise, Dumbledore was quite pleased with the suggestion, and almost immediately instated him as the Transfigurations teacher. Though he was quite young to be a teacher, his intellect and enthusiastic nature, as well as his sometimes unpredictable, mysterious attitude endeared him to the majority of his students. His fellow teachers were not quite as thrilled, knowing of his secret affliction, but none of them doubted Dumbledore's foresight. As ample arrangements were made to assure Kakashi harmed no one during the full moon - he gets locked in a thick cage in the dungeons each month for that night, at his own behest - he has, for the past three years, proved a knowledgable and informative Professor who keeps his student's interest quite well, giving them a healthy mix of book learning and practical work. He still keeps to himself quite a bit, but is not cold or off-putting, quite content to have a casual chat with anyone he comes across. Most agree that while there is an oddness to him, he can be a good companion if one doesn't expect too much personal information, and he puts the student's instruction and safety among his very first priorities.

Sample Interaction Post in First Person:
The beginning of the year always gets to me. Most summers, I spend travelling, experiencing new places and studying with masters of various arts. It is relaxing, in its own way, though it's hardly what most would call a 'vacation.'

And then, I'm back here. My chambers are comfortable, simply furnished in the way I'm too accustomed to to change, and the castle feels like home. But home is not a restful place. Not too long after my arrival, however...there's where the chaos begins.

The youngest students are nervous, jittery, too loud and too eager. I can't blame them; I suppose I was much like they were at that age. The ones who have been here a year or two are more comfortable, and therefore, behave as any adolescent might. Constantly do I find graffitied walls, crude magical bombs in the toilet outside the staff lounge to muck with the sewers, students skipping class and of course, usually related, underage trysts going on in the most unlikely of places. A broom cupboard, I ask you...

The eldest are the worst, yet the best. Some have matured enough to take their studies seriously, comprehending that soon they'll be thrust into the real world where their actions will mean more than a slap on the wrist or a bad grade. Others are wild with near-graduation mania and even worse than the middling students, feeling on top of the world, elite, omnipotent.

...but again. I can't blame any of them. They have every reason in the world to be exhuberant and as stated before, I was guilty of some of the same things my very self.

But it does so weary the mind.

Sample Interaction Post in Third Person:

5:42 PM Kashi: Kakashi smirks faintly at that, audibly snapping his teeth at the suggestion before refocusing on his breakfast. And this isn't so bad, now, he really didn't need to worry about things being awkward, did he? It was just he and Sasuke, the same as it ever was, only a little bit more now. Finishing his own breakfast quickly, he deposits the dishes in the sink and then ambles off to the bedroom to reclaim the rest of his clothes, preparing for the day's task.

5:48 PM me: A small scowl crosses his face but it disappears just as quickly as he returns his attention to his breakfast. After he is done he deposits the dishes into the sink and begins to wash them. Since he has the day pretty much to himself he figures getting any chores out of the way now would leave room for him to lounge around and be lazy later.

5:52 PM Kashi: Finishing with his preparations, Kakashi ambles back into the kitchen,
covertly sliding a pair of kunai onto the counter near the dishes. They're similar to those his own sensei gave him long ago, with tags on them that will alert him if they're thrown, though he wishes he could offer some better defense than that. He drops a kiss to the top of Sasuke's head, which is conveniently just the right height - short little fucker - and mutters warningly. "Don't leave the house. No matter what. I'll be back soon."

5:55 PM me: Sasuke turns and smiles at him as he nods. "I won't. I'll be here when you get back." He says quietly, then turns to finish the dishes, rinsing them off and setting them in the rack to dry before he drains the sink of the water and suds, now free to do whatever it is he wants to do. Not that he knows what that is, but he has the rest of the day to figure it out. Turning and leaning against the counter, Sasuke watches Kakashi leave. "Be careful."

6:04 PM Kashi: Kakashi backs away towards the door, nodding at the reassurance. He certainly hopes that's the case, though he's sure that, were Itachi to show up, he'd have no qualms coming into the house after him. But why would he be after Sasuke in the first place? That's what he can't figure out. With a playful salute, Kakashi mutters an "Always" in reponse to the warning, before finally heading out.
