So I got my tank set up- 10gal on a stand, aspen, two thermometers, UTH. I don't have the snake yet, should be getting her tomorrow :D I hooked up the UTH to get an idea of how hot it'd get and so it'd be warm when she got here and not a few hours of me tinkering with it to get to the right heat. But I have a question/problem. I have one thermometer with a lead that's stuck in the substrate above the UTH. Last night it peaked at 101.5 degrees. I got worried that there wasn't enough room for the heat to escape so I lifted the cool side up and propped with a notebook. This morning it's back down to 99.5 which is still a little warm- should I lift up the other side as well? Or is 99.5 ok? However the cool side of my tank is 60 degrees by the thermometer. It doesn't have leads though, it's just a normal one in the air, so that might be the problem. Should I get a low wattage bulb and lamp for the cool side of the tank to get up to eighty? My room is pretty cold too and it's screen lid, would putting a blanket over the top help keep the heat in until I get a better hood?
