Non-Wincest fic recs
So I was talking with onastick the other day and learned that - *GASP!* - she has not been reading SPN fanfic. Yeah, okay, I was where she was maybe a month ago - afraid to delve too deeply into the fandom because of the prevalence of Wincest, which - while certainly okay - is definitely not my cup of tea.
I have since been steered onto the proper path, in part due to recommendations made by abrupte on her journal maybe a month ago. I mean, yeah, I'd been reading the fics by sarah_p (which would be a part of betaing them, no?), but not really anything else, not even by authors that I knew I liked in other fandoms. Because, well, NEW FANDOMS ARE SCARY, OKAY? Will Dean and Sam be nearly as awesome as I perceive them to be on-screen? Will there be some crazy-ass OFC (or OMC, I suppose) who makes me want to cry? Will they KILL DEAN? I just ... yeah. Besides, I had DA fic to fulfill my need for Jensen Ackles-related fanfic, so who needs Supernatural fanfic?

A Case of You by evoque (Dean/Veronica) - Veronica dreams of a man she's never met but still feels as if she knows him.
Of All the Gin Joints by jwynn (Logan, Dean) - Logan is a cocky-ass motherfucker.
Dean/canonical female in a hot pairing
abrupte's "Slips and Tangles" series (Dean/Jess, Jess/Sam)
- Sometimes the Sun - this is the only fic finished so far, but since we've got pretty much all of the upcoming fics plotted (at least generally), I'm really flipping excited about this fic and who will play a role later down the road. It's clearly an AU for "What if Dean met Jess before the Pilot?" but it's an excellently awesome and hot (and soon-to-be-angsty) AU. And, seriously, Dean is so hot when he angsts, isn't he?
602 by abrupte (Dean/Jo, Sam) - A fantastic fic that is definitely worth reading, even if you don't ship Dean/Jo. It's set at an indefinite point in the future and makes so much sense that it's hard not to appreciate the pairing after reading this take on what might, eventually, be. Seriously, if Dean/Jo ever happens, this is kinda how I want it to happen - the angst regarding Sam notwithstanding.
Don't Cry, You Can't Kill the Dead by abrupte (Dean/dead!Jess, Sam) - The fic that really opened my eyes to how deliciously angsty Dean/Jess can be. It's not necrophilia, I promise - Dean is in love with Jess's spirit.

Other kick-ass fics that you need to be reading
Because I Could Not Stop for Death (He Kindly Stopped for Me) by kroki-refur - Dean and Sam die. A lot. In a multitude of different ways.
But for the Grace by kroki-refur (Dean, Sam, Pastor Jim - 13-part complete fic) - Dean gets transported to an alternate reality and has to fight his way back to his world and his Sam.
dys·lex·i·a by abrupte (Dean, Sam, John) - I think the setup for this one is probably pretty self-explanatory.
Man's Best Friend by sarah_p - Dean has a LiveJournal.
The One Where Dean Turns into a Car by iamstealthyone - Pretty self-explanatory, I think. In this one, Dean really becomes one with the Impala.
Revisionist History by dodger_winslow - Rewriting the Usual Suspects in a way that makes sense and is nicely devoid of Linda Blair's acting. So, so pretty. ;)
Science Fiction, Double Feature by purestvixen - Body-switching fun.
Three Times Over by dev_earl (Dean, Sam) - Three different AU's of what else could have been, maybe, possible.
ETA: Here are some good SPN fic communities to keep an eye on as well -
crack_Impala - Even if you're not into Wincest, this fic rec community is good to watch. Their complete schedule is listed in the userinfo but on Mondays, they feature gen fic, and on Wednesdays they feature het and other slash fic. If you want to start reading based off recs (and beyond what I have listed here), that might not be a bad place to check out.
sn_crossovers - For those of you that enjoy reading SPN/VM fic or SPN/Buffy fic or .... whatever, this community is a good choice for you.
spn_connect - A writer's resource community if you're thinking about writing some SPN fanfic or want to offer your assistance as a beta/sounding board.
spn_gen - A community for posting SPN fanfic that is gen in nature. [i.e. no pairings allowed]
spn_het - A community for posting SPN fanfic that is het in nature. [i.e. no slash/Wincest]
wincest_free - A Wincest-free community. If you're not into Wincest, watching this comm is probably not a bad idea as it has fic, icons, etc. that are not Wincest in nature.
And if you end up finding a particular ship that you're into, there's probably a community for that as well. [and if you can't seem to find one, ask, and I'll probably be able to steer you in the right direction]
