For Isaac

Oct 30, 2008 20:59

Peter had dragged himself out of bed for only one reason. Because having Nathan show up on his doorstep was not what either of them needed. Dressing carefully his day had gone fast. Faster then usual because he'd been thinking about what waited at home ( Read more... )

Isaac woke up only briefly when Peter got up, shifting to occupy the warm part of the bed before going back to sleep for another two hours.

The rest of the day had been a surreal mix of day dream, fantasy and outright denial as he got washing going, changed beds, finished the fish lady's portrait and sat around thinking about what had happened, why it shouldn't have happened, shouldn't happen again and how badly he wanted it to.

He was so wrapped in his own thought that he didn't even hear the door until Peter called out to him. He peeked out of his room, slipping down towards the kitchen. "Yeah?"

"I brought home dinner,' he called. "I figured you'd be working on your work and not even think to eat."

Unpacking the containers, he had gotten deli sandwiches and salads. "If you're not hungry, I understand." He turned and tossed the smokes at Isaac.

"Um... yeah." He really did forget about food today.

He caught the smokes, face lighting up. "Thanks. I was nearly out." They were tossed back into his room carelessly as he came closer to investigate the food. And Peter, in a circumspect way.

Peter nodded, pushing the two wrapped sandwiches at his house mate. "One is turkey and cheddar on sourdough, the other is chicken salad. I got cole slaw and potato salad and cheesecake. I... I'd like you to try and eat."

The sandwiches were passed back to the table, left there and Isaac took a step closer to Peter, watching his eyes. Trying to gauge how he felt about what had happened. Looking for a hint of discomfort, or worry or regret.

Peter turned, his gaze meeting Isaac. He smiled, all crooked and happy. "I missed you today,' he said, leaning in to kiss Isaac. He didn't hesitate but he moved slow enough that Isaac could move away.

Peter's smile made him smile. He didn't pull away, breathing out a slow breath before kissing Peter lightly. "How was work?"

"Long. Slow." His fingers moved up to rub a spot just below his collar. "Slightly painful,' he said with a bright grin. "I almost didn't go in this morning. When I heard the alarm, I thought about blowing it off."

He looked down and then back up. "Did you sleep?"

Isaac smiled shyly, ducking his head and turning away from Peter to grab food and plates. "Yeah. I slept pretty solidly."

"I'm really glad to hear that. I worry about you, you know."

Grabbing the six pack he came to the table. "Will you try and eat?"

"You don't need to. I'm okay." He settled himself down on the couch, spreading food out on the coffee table and pushing Lacey from investigating. "I'll eat."

Taking his seat at the opposite end of the couch, Peter grinned. "I'm going to anyway so suck it up,' he said. "Which sandwich you want?"

"Mm. Chicken. I'm not a huge fan of turkey. It's too dry for me." He oofed as Lacey scrambled into his lap and settled down sprawled over him to gaze adoringly at Peter.

Peter laughed, pushing the chicken salad towards Isaac. "You spoil her,' he noted, unwrapping his sandwich. Then, without hesitation he slipped some of the turkey to Lacey.

"Sometimes. No more than you." He dumped the sandwich on a plate and leaned the entire thing on Lacey, using her as a table.

"You want salad,' he asked, putting coleslaw on his plate.
