Legend of Zelda Manga

Personality: Despite taking Link from the video game, I do model a lot of his personality as it’s portrayed in the manga. For anyone who has played the Zelda games, it’s widely known that Link is very courageous, but that his courage often crosses the line into stupidity, and thus he ends up getting himself into trouble. He has the ability to work through his fear to do what he needs to in order to survive, help his friends, or generally just do what he thinks is right.

I also see Link as very sensitive. For the majority of his life thus far, he has been rejected by a lot of the Kokiri he has lived with, mostly a result of not receiving a fairy partner that everyone else has. Although this is only hinted at in the game, the manga shows that Link was the target of bullying by Mido and some other Kokiri. Because of this, I see Link as being careful not to hurt other people’s feelings if he can help it, as he knows what it’s like to have them hurt constantly. Even though he is on the sensitive side, Link doesn’t let that bog him down. He’s not one to stop and mope for long periods of time when something bad happens. Instead, he tries to be proactive and change things for the better himself.

Link is a very caring person as well. Whether the people he encounters treats him well or not, he will risk his own safety to make sure others don’t get hurt. Even people that have treated Link poorly time and again receive his help, as Link may not like said people, but he doesn’t think they deserve something like a horrible death either.

In the games, Link never speaks. I interpret this to see that Link is generally a reserved person. He will ask people around him for help and advice if he needs it, but he usually keeps to himself. Of course, should a person come up to speak to him, or should he find someone interesting, he is not incapable of holding a conversation or making new friends. Despite being quite naïve about the world outside the Forest, Link is really very good at making new friends. I do not see Link openly complaining about his problems to other people though. Link sees his problems as just his own, and unless he becomes very close with someone, he wouldn’t bother to say too much about them or even show that he was too bothered by them, as he wouldn’t want others to worry about him.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Link is very athletic and skilled with the sword. He also tends to learn to use other weapons fairly quickly. Of course, he won’t have weapons once he gets to Johto, but he will fare better than a lot of other people when out on the roads, as he’s grown up in wilderness all his life. Link will also be able to take care of himself should he have to travel alone. Link is also a good problem solver. (All that practice in those dungeons he’s constantly exploring helps a lot.) He’s good at solving puzzles, and it doesn’t take him too much effort to think outside the box. He’s generally good with animals too, so he should have no trouble getting along with Pokemon, even if they may have trouble behaving properly.

Link is very naïve. Before he was sent out of the forest by order of the Great Deku Tree, Link had no experience with what we see as everyday things. This is mostly portrayed in the manga, but Link learns the hard way about the concept of money, and he’s pretty much in the dark when it comes to many other things as well. Thankfully, by the point I’ve taken him, he would have learned about a lot of these things, but still not enough to have a full grasp of the workings of what’s going on around him. Because of this, Link often asks a lot of questions, and to people with little patience, this can be pretty annoying. He also acts a lot on his emotions, rushing in to things before thinking, and ultimately getting himself and even other people into trouble. Since Link is from Hyrule, which is based off of Medieval Europe, Link is going to have a lot of problems with the technology around Johto. He’s bound to figure out the Pokegear and other items after a while, but he’s going to be completely lost at the start.
