I got a job at Caribou again! And Aleida got a full-time teaching job. I start classes next Tuesday. This weekend will probably be my last beach adventure with Sarah for summer.
Last weekend Sarah and I volunteered at Extreme Home Makeover as VIP Snack Stand caterers. We didn't pick the role, but at least we had air-conditioning and a great view of the house. The episode will air on November 25, I believe on Fox.
Sarah and Liz watched Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with me Sunday. Sarah and I hit Costco and got a lot of quality time alone together. That's rare with her 1.64 million friends calling her 98% of the time.
Other than that, Tex and Paul and I have played a lot of Halo 2 around here. The game is plagued with glitches, nerds, immaturity, angst, bad internet connection, cheating, and other wonderful features. Yet we're engrossed enough to keep coming back. We vowed a few weeks ago to play singly or in pairs because splitting the screen more than that makes it difficult to see anything. Tex denies this but for years we've always been deferential to his talent and given him the top screen.
We also got to play with Alec and his friend Nick, who is a talented shooter. They're incompetent in any game other than slayer, though.
It's funny because slayer and body count used to be the lame games. Objective games required talent and slayer was a runaway game for the nerds. Now slayer seems to be the only game where I have observed a team make a comeback.
I went to soccer practice Tuesday and probably because of the rain, two guys showed up and left soon after. I managed to join a practice with another team, which turned into a scrimmage with a younger, very talented team. I could keep up with them and our team held up until we got tired. It was nice to play a tough game in the rain. I also met Corrina and Eric. She was probably 4'10" and as tough as Sar or Er, and just as athletic too. Eric was her complement and I think her boyfriend, but I'm not certain. Anyway they made a great pair of strikers together.
I also learned a lot about how these typical jock teams operate. It's all just the use of open space. Smart midfielders could probably anticipate how they'll pass and force them to make mistakes.
When we start our games we'll be indoors at Burnsville Blast. That place rings of the origins of this blog.
