Early EARLY Saturday Morning, Tokyo City Japan
"Cancelled?" Momoko repeated, gaping.
Kaoru nodded and flicked the Lab's giant screen tv on to, of course, a soccer game. "Ken said something about the Mayor getting into a fight with his brother again and so the whole thing was called off."
"No way!" Momoko let her duffel bag fall from her shoulder to the floor as she flopped onto the couch next to Kaoru. "I got up so early! And totally re-arranged my schedule at work! Used up a furlough at school, did all my homework yesterday, and promised Maeda-san a souvenir for watching the crabs! How can it be cancelled?"
"Dunno," The brunette shrugged, not taking her eyes off the tv. "But it is. Take the weekend off. Go see a movie or somethin'. You don't see me complaining about it."
That was true, and Momoko frowned, rolling her head to glare at her friend. "Why aren't you? We were sure to get into some fights this trip. You were totally excited last week."
Kaoru's returned look was priceless. "The Rangers made the finals!" She pointed at the screen with the remote. "Today's game determines who they play! How can you not know this? It's all over the news!"
Momoko's eyes rolled and she let her head loll back against the edge of the couch. "Like I watch the news?" But at least that explained why Kaoru wasn't disappointed that their latest assignment had been cancelled.
"I can't believe you. Everyone's talking about it! We haven't been in the finals in over a decade! Stores are gonna be closed and they're running an all day-marathon of the matches until tonight's game."
"Well, I'm totally not going to watch sports all day. Wonder what I should do?"
"Go somewhere. If you're here, you'll just annoy me."
Which was true, Momoko had to admit. It was actually totally tempting to do just that, anyway, but Kaoru's revenge would be awesome, so Momoko took a moment to think of any other possibilities.
"Ah!" Momoko pounded her fist into her open palm. "Lion-o's birthday! I can go visit him for the weekend! I already have my bag packed..."
"Ah ah!" Kaoru grouched loudly and turned up the volume. "Whatever. Just go." She waved a hand, shooingly.
Momoko jumped up and grabbed her bag. "Tell the Professor for me, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah," Kaoru replied as Momoko dashed out the door. "Sure. Whatev... Hey! Whaddya mean, 'lucky break'?! Iwabuchi was a GOD, getting that goal in!"

A few minutes later and Momoko was waiting on the lawn for a portal to Fandom. On the Lab's account, of course. What? It was totally a fee for lack of notice about the cancelled job!
