The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated, Sheol.

[ a small laugh ]

...And yet, it seems almost fitting that once I am gone, the entire City becomes a madhouse -- who have we to blame this time, I wonder? Is it the Scientists? Errol? The Knightmare? Is poor, weak Mister Sulivan up to his old tricks yet again? [ snort ] Or perhaps Testament ( Read more... )

You were terribly missed, Gilgamesh.

Pray tell this Persian mongrel what grave matters stole the King of Kings and King of Heroes, the First Lord of the House of Uruk, the Slayer of Heaven's Bull, the Father of the Great Ur-Nungal, the Pompous Sumerian away from his congregation of humble peasants during their time of need?

Prince, did you miss the subtle nuances of my words yet again? You are of royal blood, ergo you are not on the same level as the rest of these animals; do try to keep up.

Forgive me, my King. I cannot claim to be a master of subtly what with my royal blood being of the Persian taint. We are an easily confused group of people, you see. Downright ignorant.

Oh. See now, were I half as sharp as the King of Kings, the First Lord of the House of Uruk, I would have guessed as much.

I shall presume, since you are not willing to part with your grand and doubtlessly heroic story, that you pursued nothing even remotely interesting or important throughout your absence.

Perhaps I should be thankful for that. I would hate to think you had gone and earned yourself a new title.

Your sarcasm, though obviously dryer than the Great Sahara, is more of a welcome thing than you realize, Little Prince.

How have you faired, in my absence?

I have been alright. I escaped the city's recent troubles unscathed. And you, King? Has your journey left you in good health?

Relatively. The madness of these...citizens seems to be draining my stomach of its fortitude, however.

The citizens that are trying to impose their fractious laws on everyone else, you mean? I thought perhaps the initial outburst was brought on by widespread blood loss or fever, but it does not seem to be letting up as the days pass.

A different type of infection, but an infection nonetheless.

What are your thoughts on it?

At first, I wanted to keep an open mind about it all. My own suggestions were turned down, denounced for being too harsh, too "barbaric". I sought to understand why they considered their methods superior to and more civil than my own. That was a grievous error on my part.

They have their guards and their lawyers, some of whom are good people- good commoners, I should say- but none of them are fit to take on a leadership role. They have no experience to call upon. They are learning as they go along. They might have gotten by with that approach in a less volatile city, but Discedo is in need of a strong, infallible ruler. I see that now.

And who would you elect to this...position of power?

Yourself?

... I have a great deal of respect for the elder, Iroh. Him, perhaps, or I'm sure our resident King of Kings could handle the job.
