Molly and Niki

Hi, everyone. I have a couple questions about Molly's and Niki's powers. I've only seen the episodes through once, so I'm just wondering a couple of things. Maybe you guys can help me out. :)

1. Is Niki's alter ego, Jessica, a part of her power? I mean, we know that Niki's power is super strength, but is Jessica just a side portion to it or is

With Molly, the sickness is because of her power, I believe. Molly has the same powers that Mohinder's sister had before she died. His father had found the cure for her sickness, Mohinder's bolld, but his sister had died before Mohinder was born. That's why Mohinder was transfusing his blood into Molly, to help her get better.

1.) Jessica is most likely a split personality that Niki developed after years of abuse and the trauma of her sister's murder. I don't think Jessica is part of Niki's power; she only became aware of it before Niki did.

2.) Molly's illness isn't really clarified. We know that she has the same illness that Shanti Suresh had, and since it has been implied that Shanti was an evolved human, it can be inferred that it's an illness that specifically targets people with powers.

1. No, it's not, because in the final episode, Jessica disappears and Niki is left alone. This is hinted about during the epsisode "Five Years Gone," there's an implication that Niki still has her powers, but her other side is now gone. I believe it was just an effect of her not being able to face certain parts of herself, her power included, and using her alternate personality to deal with that and her extensive guilt, as well as her relationship with her father.

2. It's implied that the people with these genetic enhances, or mutated genes, or whatever they are in Heroes can get sick with this illness. She probably has the illness because she has the power, but I doubt her power has to do with the illness, as she wouldn't be able to use the power without the illness.

1. More than likely I think Niki has Dissociative Identity Disorder (i.e.: Split Personality), which was probably brought on by her fathers abuse of her & her sister & then ultimately her sisters death. I don't think "Jessica" is actually part of her abilities. I just think in general she has "super human strength"

2. As for Molly, it's hard to tell, but I've always figured that her illness was something separate from her abilities. The way they explained it on the show was that her illness was preventing her from accessing her abilities, but it might be that they do go hand in hand.... it's plausible.... (I know that didn't really answer your question, sorry).

I'm not sure if it is DID, or if somehow she actually absorbed Jessica into herself somehow. After all, in five years gone, they said that Jessica had been killed, not just that she was gone.

I wish they had developed the Niki/Jessica storyline further. That really intriqued me.

Dissociative Identity Disorder actually requires that the host have two alter personalities, so as we were never shown even a hint of a second alter personality she does not technically have it, even if that was what the writers were going for.

1. I am just theorizing, but maybe Jessica's existence within Niki is a part of Jessica's power and not Niki's? Since Jessica is Niki's sister and since this is Heroes, I am assuming that Niki isn't experiencing multiple personality disorder or anything. I'm not sure what the power would specifically be though... The ability to possess another person? I see it possible for Peter to take on that then. But not for him to have an alter ego himself.

2. Since Mohinder was able to cure Molly, and her illness was related to Mohinder's sister's, I definitely think her power made her sick, though I'm not sure exactly how/why.
