Summary: Matt worries that his new baby might have powers. Future Fic, a wee ficlet as a teaser gift for limmenel. The actual fic will be Nathan’s kids having powers.
Matt had heard her worrying, for the whole nine months and seven months since. Janice never once mentioned her worries to him and he pretended he couldn’t hear them, but he could. He heard her worry that their baby would be ‘different’ like him; worse, that being different would lead them all into a danger Matt couldn’t protect them from.
Failing that would be worse than failing any detective test.
Matt liked being alone with Molly. She didn’t have any thoughts; she was a blank slate, filled only with impulse and the desire to play. He watched her crawl across the room and focused only on the silence coming from her, silence filled with unconditional love.
Matt was sure he only looked away for one second. Just to make sure the noise he heard was in his head, not in the room, but when he looked back, Molly was at his feet, bumping her nose into his legs and gurgling happily up at him.
Matt turned her around and watched her crawl over to the table, and she crawled fast. Really fast. Super fast, Matt told himself. Heart beating at a speed that matched her baby moves, he turned her around again. That speed just wasn’t normal.
How long until she walks, Matt wondered, because at that point it would be difficult to hide.
