Character-Claude
Rating-PG-13
Warnings-None
Spoilers-Through "Parasite"
Summary-He knew people.
Claude had spent a lifetime watching people. He knew their patterns, their follies, their inconsistencies; he knew everything there was to know about Homosapien sapien. What he knew nothing of was Peter Petrelli, Niki Sanders, Claire Bennet, Eden McCain; he knew nothing about any one person, just lumped them all together as one large, dysfunctional accord.
“Everyone’s like the rest,” he’d grumbled, shoving past his empath, “that’s why they’re the rest.” He could have sworn that Peter smirked, rolled his eyes, and went back to brooding.
Claude never got the chance to know people because when he did, they shot him in the stomach and tore out his heart and made him think dirty, dirty thoughts.
Her met her once, that pixy, and tried his damnedest not to feel anything towards her; at this point, he’d been “dead” for quite some time, almost as long as she’d been “alive.” He watched as his old friend coddled and struck and manipulated her until Sarah Ellis became a whisper of a ghost and Eden McCain stepped into the shadowed light of Primatech, short hair and sad eyes prominent.
She was too smart, so she had to die, of course.
Peter was a whole ‘nother story, clutching onto him like some baby dog, trailing his every move until a grey morning in November sent his naughty bits flying into little bits, annihilating the whole city along with him.
Claude had spent a lifetime watching people, afraid to turn an eye on himself, afraid to be watched because secretly, he knew he always was.
“Why didn’t you just tell me the truth?” Bennet asked when he found him months later, shuffling through the dilapidated streets of New York. His face was pained and oddly honest. Claude could do nothing but shrug.
“Like you would have believed me.”
“Claude,” Bennet called after him, too late as Claude disappeared.
Vowing to never look again, Claude became one of the Unwatched.
