The apartment was empty. Janice was out shopping and Matt was truly alone. For the first time in hours there wasn't a sound. His head was finally allowed a moment's rest.
It wasn't often that Matt heard nothing. There was always somebody else's voice inside his head. He wasn't able to relax in even the smallest of crowds, He often wasn't even able to relax at home around his wife's thoughts. So much had changed since he discovered this ability. Matt knew that he should enjoy the silence now, because he never knew when the hell would start up again.
