She was surrounded by them, and all she could do was obsess over the small things. Around her people flew and read minds and traveled through time, but all she did was shake her head at the mother who allowed her child to mess around with an ATM, narrow her eyes at the people using the sick, orphaned little girl as a GPS, and sneer at the PDA between an uncle and niece. They were all so messed up, their so-called evolutionary advantages barely made a blip on her radar. Audrey crossed her arms, watched and judged, and felt the anger brewing within her. Matt said she was scared, told her she was substituting small things for the real problems they faced. That it wasn’t stealing or child slavery or incestuous pedophilia she was really concerned about, but the world going to ashes and their bodies to dust.
Matt tried to get her to let it go.
Matt was an idiot.
