Summary: Little Gabriel stares out the window as his father drives him to a diner.
The little boy who would one day be called Gabriel liked going places in the car. Nothing bad was likely to happen while his father was busy driving. Plus, his favorite friend was there so often, the one who showed up whenever they went on a trip through farmland or backroads. As the rows of crops would whip by, the boy would imagine they were the legs of a person, flashing back and forth as they ran to keep up. No matter how fast the car went, his friend was always keeping pace - loyal, faithful, and never alone.
