I went to see Rent. I'll give this movie an A. The only flaw I saw was that there was a song in EVERY scene (Rent had a LOT of scenes [I understand that it was a musical, but no musical I ever saw had songs in every scene]. There are a total of 42 songs in the Broadway play and some of them were cut short to talking. I just thought there were a lot of songs.

But, besides that, it was a very powerful film. The themes that our society tends to ignore those who do not live up to society's standard of "normal". Homelessness, homosexuality, AIDS, and drugs (which were the main themes) are the topics people used to ignore in the movie's time settings. I thought there were many funny parts to it, and if I had a favorite character, it would probably be Angel, the cross-dresser. He was a very unique actor. But I think that the movie also shows (which, 'tis the season) that you should appreciate what you have and not take life for granted (I think it has to be something about giving thanks...). Appreciate what you have because a whole heck of a lot of people had worse.

Movie was sad though...but I didn't cry. Though it makes me wonder, Would it have been okay if I did cry? The reason I ask is because on the way home (I was driving one of my friends and her sister and her boyfriend) we were talking about how the movie was sad. Stephanie asked me if I cried, and I said no. I told them, regrettably, that I had cried only 2 times (that's it, not more times). Beauty and the Beast and West Side Story. Her sister said, "Yea, that was sad, at the end". Then she asked me, "Are you gay?" I said no. She said that I should come out of the closet and admit it. All becasue her dad cried at WSS and it turned out he was gay. But it was sad. So it makes me wonder that, is it really okay to cry? even in today's society where the pressure to "be a man"?

Happy Thanksgiving.
