It has been awhile since I've updated the goings on in my life. I haven't been in the mood to write lately. No reason why really. Just one of those times when you feel like writing would be too annoying. But it's time to break the cycle so lets get caught up, shall we?
Two weeks ago, Michael, Nicole, her man, and myself went to the Radiohead concert. I'm not about to get into all the details, some of you already heard the story, but to sum it up briefly, Nicole is one of the cutest, silliest most magnetic, things I've ever known, and Radiohead was really good....all 5 songs we got to hear of them that is.
This weekend was really fun. A complete spookfest. I loved it. Saturday morning Mike and I drove to Philly. We first went to a musuem I had wanted to go to called "The Mutter Museum" It's a museum containing over 20,000 objects including lots of preserved anatomical & pathological specimens in fluid. Or as I like to call it, lots of real babies and humans with crazy deformities preserved in formaldehyde jars. And also, memorabilia of famous scientists. It had a creepy theme to it. The entire musuem looks old, with dim, yellow lighting. It was really interesting though. I saw a real human head cut up into many cross sections, so that I could see everything from his face, to his brain, to the back of his corneas, etc...And who knew they do that with a ham slicer??? They really do! Anyway very cool.
Next, we went to the Eastern State Penitentiary. Originally, this was the place I was less excited about going to, b/c the museum seemed as though it would've been way more interesting than a penitentiary. But I was very wrong. This place was amazing. One of the coolest, most intrigueing places I've ever been. First of all, it resembles a beautiful castle, with 30 foot walls ascending into the sky. It takes up an entire block. And it sits right in the middle of an urban philly neighborhood, complete with deli's and CVS's on the corners. It looks like it was dropped on that block out of the sky. Wizard of OZ style, LOL. Just the structure itself is breathtaking. Once you go in, you must sign a release form stating that you understand the structure is considered a ruin, & is not structurally sound. After that, you are given a headphone set attached to a little piece of equipment with buttons. I thought this was very cool, b/c instead of the normal human tour guide, or you just wandering around aimlessely with a map, this little device directed you where to go and with everyplace you went next, it would give you all the background info, plus interviews with actual inmates, guards, etc... I could write so much about this place but I'll try to keep the rest short. This is the worlds very first penitenitary built in the 1700's. It was based on the quaker belief of complete solitaire for punishment, and true reflection & understanding of your wrong doings. An inmate was only allowed to leave his cell for one hour per day, and when he was, he had to wear a sheet over his head. Even then, you were not allowed to see who was around you, communicate, or even see what your surroundings looked like. I got to go inside actual cells, explore the many twists and turns of this place, see where Al Capone stayed, and even see actual tunnels inmates made in escape attempts. I also got to see things like a drawer to an inmates dresser, with a complete confession written on the inside of him murdering his family. I mean this place was just so beautiful, yet equally creepy all at once. We were there during daytime and the way the sunlight spilled into this place was just amazing. We took pictures. I really enjoyed it there. It was so interesting.
Afterwards, we walked around the city of Philly for a bit. I liked it. It was alot cleaner than NYC, thats for sure. I would definately like to visit again, perhaps over night next time.
Saturday night I worked at this crappy place. It wasn't fun whatsoever. Sunday I went to the movies to see Texas chainsaw massacre. It was pretty scary. I was expecting less. It wasn't bad. Afterward, we went to a haunted mansion & corn maze. The haunted mansion was cute & all but the corn maze was scary!!!! It's an actual corn field on someone's property and they cut paths to make it a maze. Its night time with no lights, its cold and you can't see two feet in front of you. Needless to say, men with chainsaws kept jumping out at us, everyone runs in different directions, but of course Tarah is the only one who winds up by heself! Lost in the corn maze without her friends. The adrenaline like fun quickly dissapates when you are all by yourself. Of course as I'm by myself, trying to find my friends, a man with a chainsaw starts running toward me, so I start yelling "please, stop, I lost my friends Turn your chainsaw off!" We eventually found eachother though. I ended the night with a nice cup of Spiced pumpkin latte from 7-11 YUMMM! I love Autumn. And I love Halloween. And I love forensics. My mother said that ones interests are things that carry over from past lives & that perhaps I was a killer or a victim in my past life. Its certainly something to contemplate...
