Splash Theory

There is a world in your eyes
harder than a grain of sand rubbed between
fleshy fingers and
as upside down as a
marble’s cat’s-eye
it would be green

If the world was a marble
I would eat it
feel the lump in my throat
and the gentle cushioned thump as it falls
into the oyster of my belly

There is a world in your eyes
that I wish to see
like a straw all the
way down to your belly
the black darkness of the
universe, a devoid space
a grain of sand would grow
and become a star
your tongue would laugh fireworks

Your lips bubble forth laughter
and become baby air bisons
magic fingers skim the frothy sand
drawing up tiny castles
explode into my arms!
blow my way
walk with me on the shore
the smell of salt water squished
between baby toes

I’d look up and see the same
grains of sand in the sky
and know that with a palm’s throw there’d be more

Your laugh makes waves jive
and seahorses bow stiffly to clownfish
sparkling water above coral beds
it splashes the backs of your hands
and you swirl swirl swirl
make a tornado with your arms
all marble-like, all cat’s-eyed
your eyes that glow with stars
a stomach that embraces flowers-of-pearl
a world in your eyes
