Why Jethryk loves Star Trek./What Jethryk thinks of Star Trek.

Star Trek is the crem del a crem of science fiction shows, and it's followers (Trekkers) are a broad minded and intelligent lot.

Star Trek over the years through it's television shows and movies has proven it's worth by offering audiences innovative, thought provoking stories full of depth and substance.
Through Star Trek, topics such as sociology, philosophy, ethics, morality, community, the human condition, and of course science have been explored. The star ship enterprise, her crew and their primary mission in it's self is an analogy for peace and harmony as much as it is for the quest and acquisition of knowledge itself. A very wise and noble quest indeed. Take the Vulcan's for example and their IDIC philosophy of "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations". This philosophy recognizes the true overarching benefits of the coming together of people of different types (or alien life forms in the Star Trek Universe), to exchange ideas, learn from each other and discover what new ideas may spring from such a union.
Star Trek is a champion for humanist philosophy too (although the movies/shows may sometimes confuse this philosophy with whole adage of 'what it is to be human'). In Star Trek, the main goal of the people living in that time (the 24th Century in ST:TNG) is to better themselves as human beings. Their evolved sensibilities can be demonstrated by the fact that they are elevated enough not to kill and eat (or harm) their fellow animals. They treat their fellow animals (and any and all alien animal life forms for that matter) with exactly the same amount or respect and honor as they would themselves or any member of their own family. They would never treat themselves as a worthless disposable object (or commodity), and so would not treat any other in such a way. Objectifying others IS for the lesser breeds...

And finally, on the topic of the science and the scientific theories explored in the shows/movies. Sure, some times it can be flawed and inaccurate, but there in that too lies a beauty. People who are scientifically inclined/minded (whether it be in physics, astrophysics, or astronomy) often look at any flaws in such stories with a particular kind of charm. By measuring that which would happen in the real world against that which is demonstrated in such stories, it helps to clarify and underline our real world knowledge. it says hey, if adventures such as the ones in Star Trek were possible and we could travel among the stars as they do, it would happen a little bit differently in some cases.

So, from breaking down racial barriers to being an innovator for science and technology (some of which that has actually been used in our real world thanks to the show), Star Trek has been a beacon of light among science fiction shows over the years, it demonstrates what is possible when the genre of science fiction is approached in a highly intelligent and humanist way, and as a result it offers us stories which are thought provoking, full of depth, substance and wonder... Live long and prosper.
