[me] This morning there was only ONE available treadmill of the kind where you can plug in your headphones and listen to the TVs (though it faces a window, so I ended up opting not to listen to any of the tv channels anyway). Classes on our campus don't even start until Monday.

I was gonna do the incline program, with a max of 6.5, but the machine was broken (all buttons non-responsive). So I did the "Random Hill" program on the adjacent machine. I bumped the max up to 8.0 because it was starting out SO SLOW. When it did get up to 8.0 I felt a little like I could fly off the machine. It adjusted speeds every 1:40, though, so it was doable. At 11:40 it started back up again, though, and I hit the Stop button. I thought about just bumping the max down to 6.5, but I didn't.
I went and told the front desk the treadmill was broken.
Then I came back upstairs and did a 15min set. At 3:33, I bumped it down to 6.5, but at 5:00 I stopped.

I think I'm going to use the "Incline" program next week, but at 5.5mph; 5.0 feels boring, but apparently 6.0 is too high to be sustainable. (Yes, I know I could move up one-tenth of a mile at a time, but )

At the highest incline, the speed was 5.6 -- so, faster than I've been doing in recent weeks. It was hard, but I definitely felt like my body could do it (unlike other treadmill sessions where I've felt like my body's going to quit). At 34:15, it started slowing down in increments ... so that for the last minute or so I was jogging 3.2mph (the 2-minute official Cooldown was 3.9). When I was doing stretches of 6.2mph and 6.5mph, I reminded myself that (unlike the constant speed Interval program) the program would ease down near the end, but easing down with so much time left and easing down so far, I felt cheated out of the last fifth of my workout. (I considered manually upping the speed, esp. since I was looking forward to breaking 4mi, but I was also curious as to how low a speed it would go down to.)

To avoid the slowdown issue I had on Monday, I opted to plug in a 60min program and just stop at 40min.
When we hit the second peak ~37min, it started to decrease the speed, and at first I was going to just go with it, but it didn't feel right, so I punched it up
As soon as it hit 4.0mi distance I stopped it. As I was stopping, it occurred to me that I could have kept going a bit, but given how long it took me to catch my breath once I'd stopped, I didn't feel too bad about the decision.

Being better-slept definitely made it easier.
I think on Monday I'm going to do a flat-run at 6.0mph (or maybe 6.2, but maybe I'll save that for Wednesday or something so as to have a baseline)
One thing I've been noticing in recent Alpine Pass rounds is that it's difficult for me to think about much -- to do much high-level cognitive processing -- while running at this speed/intensity, which I find interesting.
I'd also started noticing the last few Interval Programs, and it remains true in Alpine Pass, that the first mile or so does actually feel harder than the rest (and once I've hit my 20min halfway point I feel much more capable of finishing, even though I'd read something (Christy Z., I swear, but then I couldn't find it on her
blog) about the first mile always being the hardest, which I'd balked at because so often I feel like starting out is fairly easy and it's when I'm getting to the end that it's really hard to not just quit early.
