It had been a long night. Ron was going from working to following Harry around through pubs. This had been coming up more and more recently. There had been a couple weeks that Ron was able to convince himself that's all it was. The past few nights, Ron wasn't even sure where Harry was or who he was with. Ron had taken to going where ever on his own and passing out at near dawn, downing a potion a few hours later and starting over.
This was really the first day he was going to be able to actually sleep in, and suddenly he was so rudely being shaken.
"Wha - ?" He flapped his arm to his side, trying to shove off whomever it was.
Hermione grabbed his wrist before he could shove her over. She was used to this defensive tactic.
"Ronald, it's near noon, I think it's time to wake up, don't you think?"
They didn't exactly have plans together, but she felt like they hadn't seen each other at all recently. The least he could do was be conscious on his day off and try to spend somet ime with her.
It took a moment for the voice to connect in his still alcohol-soaked brain. When it did, it felt like he'd been doused in cold water. Hermione sounded vaguely annoyed, though apparently he was still sleeping after noon so that made sense.
Had he forgotten something?
Rolling onto his back, Ron groaned a little and squinted in her general direction. "I'm off today?"
Rubbing at his eyes, Ron looked up at her and blinked. The fuzz was starting to creep out of his brain, only to be replaced by a sharp headache taking up residence in his right temple.
It felt a little like death
It felt worse to look at Hermione being all self-contained and sweet. He didn't want her to be nice. Shouldn't she be fussing or yelling? It was harder to feel bad when she was shrill.
"Yeah, we could do that." He stretched a little and yawned, fingers going through his hair. "Later? When I'm not dying? It's too bloody early, Hermione. I wasn't in until three. Or four. Or something."
Hermione's face dropped a bit, "I have work in the morning, so I'll have to go to bed early."
She tapped her fingers on the mattress, trying not to fly off the handle too quickly.
She started shaking him lightly again, "Come on, Ronald. You've got to stop staying out all night and drinking yourself to oblivion. You have a girlfriend, you know."
"Bloody fucking Merlin, Hermione, stop it." Ron jerked away from her, shoving himself up to sit against the headboard.
He was not in the mood to deal with this right now. Couldn't she let him sleep? Couldn't she tell him if she wanted to do something before she wanted to do it?
Couldn't she let him breathe for a minute?
"I hadn't forgotten. If I'd forgotten I had a girlfriend, I wouldn't have come home at all."
