My mother had her hip replacement surgery yesterday, and she's basically alright. I visited her today, and she was running a slight fever, but she doesn't limp like she used to. Thankfully, she's on the road to recovery.
We tried to watch Letters to Juliet on the DVD player that I won, but the screen was so small and her roommate and the woman's husband were a bit too loud, so we had to stop. And then the nurse, Al, referred to himself and the assistant, Paul, as "the A-Team." I gave him a thumbs-up and went "WOOT!" My life is so lame.
My dad, JoJo, and I are working our way through Season 1 of 30 Rock through Netflix right now, and OMG IT'S HILARIOUS!!! Kenneth cannot lose at poker and he's wonderfully Ralph Wiggum-ish. And Liz is teh nerdy awesome.
I have to revise a paper and write one from scratch this weekend. Meh. I'm just not super-jazzed about my classes this semester. Not even about writing a four-page paper about Hermione Granger, which should excite me.
And now a meme snagged from
lumcheng:
1. Write down 20 of your favourite OTPs
2. Put your media player on shuffle. The number of the song corresponds to the number of the OTPs.
3. Quote a part of the song that you think has any similarity with the story of the couple.
4. Comment.
Okay, let's see if this works at all:
1. Peter/Claude (Heroes)
And can you hear the sounds of hysteria?
The subliminal mind-fuck America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the alien nation,
Where everything isn't meant to be okaaaaayyy...
- "American Idiot", Green Day (WTF?)
2. Doctor/Jack (Doctor Who)
This is what I brought you,
This you can keep.
This is what I brought you,
You may forget me.
I promised you my heart;
Just promise to sing,
"Kiss my eyes
And lay me to sleep."
- "Prelude 12/21", AFI
3. Nine/Rose (Doctor Who)
He's a good-time Cowboy Casanova
Leanin' up against the record machine!
Looks like a cool drink of water,
But he's candy-coated misery.
- "Cowboy Casanova", Carrie Underwood (This might work better for Ten/Martha, but I'm drawing on the line, "How do I forget him?" from "Parting of the Ways" here.)
4. Dean/Castiel (Supernatural)
Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, God, I know the enemy right here.
Insurgency will rise, when the blood's been sacrificed:
We'll be blinded by the lights in our eyes.
- "Know Your Enemy", Green Day (This is the Season 4 finale all the way.)
5. Doctor/TARDIS (Doctor Who)
You are my fire,
The one desire.
Believe when I say
I want it that way.
- "I Want It That Way", The Backstreet Boys (LOL!)
6. Face/Murdock (The A-Team)
You don't want a boyfriend:
What you want is Mr. Spock
To come to your wasteland
And destroy the rooooobot.
Something more than human,
Someone with blood that's gold and green!
You want something better
Than me.
- "Mr. Spock", Nerf Herder (Of course Murdock wants Mr. Spock. Who doesn't?)
7. Gabriel/Crowley (Supernatural)
Whenever I'm out a-wanderin',
Chasin' a rainbow dream,
I often stop and think about a place I've never seen:
Where friendly folks can gather
And raise the rafters high
With songs and tales of yesteryear until they say goodbye.
- "Old Joe's Place", The Folksmen, A Mighty Wind (This place is near a crossroads and full of hypocritical douches, of course.)
8. Stiglitz/Wicki (Inglourious Basterds)
Woo-hoo!
YEE-hoo!
Woo-hoo!
YEE-hoo!
- "Sweet Escape", Gwen Stefani (Happy sexytime noises, of course.)
9. Stiglitz/Hicox (Inglourious Basterds)
A local boy kicked me in the butt last week.
I just smiled at him and I turned the other cheek.
...In fact I wish him well,
'Cause I'll be laughin' my head off when he's burnin' in Hell!
- "Amish Paradise", Weird Al Yankovic (Alonzo (my iPod), what the frak is wrong with you?!)
10. Clark/Oliver (Smallville)
You've heard that I run with a dangerous crowd:
We ain't too pretty, we ain't too proud.
We might be laughin' a bit too loud,
Aw, but that never hurt no one.
So come on, Virginia, send me a sign:
Show me a signal, I'll throw you a line.
The stain-glass curtain you're hidin' behind
Never lets in the sun.
Darlin', only the good die young.
- "Only the Good Die Young", Billy Joel (Basically Oliver's anti-hero leanings and Clark's ambivalent relationship with the proto-Justice League.)
11. Hannibal/Face (The A-Team)
Believe me,
You really don't have to worry:
I only want to make you happy,
And if you say, "Hey, go away!", I will,
But I think better still
I better stay around and love you.
Do you think I have a case?
Let me ask you to your face:
Do you think you love me?
- "I Think I Love You", The Partridge Family
12. Murdock/B. A. (The A-Team)
Woke up in New York City
In a funky, cheap hotel.
She took my heart and she took my money:
She must have slipped me a sleeping pill.
- "Livin' La Vida Loca", Ricky Martin
13. HRG/Claude (Heroes)
And she only reveals what she wants to you to see:
She hides like a child,
But she's always a woman to me.
- "She's Always a Woman to Me", Billy Joel (WTF?! Don't ask me how this happened!)
14. Buffy/Faith (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick,
And it's all in my head.
But she's touching his chest now-
He takes off her dress now,
Let me go...
- "Mr. Brightside", The Killers (Who says Faith only wanted Angel in Season 3?)
15. Buffy/Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Animals trapped behind bars in the zoo
Need run rampant and free.
Predators live by the prey they pursue-
This time the predator's ME!!!
Lust like a raging desire
Fills my whole soul with it's curse:
Burning with primitive fire,
Berserk and perverse!
- "Alive (Reprise)", Mr. Hyde, Jekyll and Hyde (Definitely the destructive side of their relationship.)
16. Aldo/Donny (Inglourious Basterds)
I'll always remember
The song they were playin'
The first time we danced, and I knew
As we swayed to the music
And held to each other,
I fell in love with you.
- "Could I Have This Dance", Anne Murray ("Dance" meaning either "horrific carnage" or "rough sex" in this context.)
17. Aldo/Utivich (Inglourious Basterds)
She's still preoccupied
With 19-19-1985 1945.
- "1985", Bowling For Soup (Utivich always has lots of PTSD in fic.)
18. Shosanna/Marcel (Inglourious Basterds)
Go tell that long-tongued liar,
Go and tell that midnight rider,
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back-biter:
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down.
- "God's Gonna Cut You Down", Johnny Cash (As they plan their delicious revenge on the Third Reich.)
19. Jack/John (Torchwood)
Oh baby, baby, how was I supposed to know
That somethin' wasn't right here?
Oh baby, baby, I shouldn't have let you go,
And now you're out of sight, yeah.
- "...Baby One More Time", Britney Spears (John feigning butthurt-ness in front of Jack. He would chose Britney Spears.)
20. Batman/Joker (The Dark Knight)
I could stay awake just to hearing breathin',
Watch you smile while you are sleepin'
While you're far away and dreamin'.
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender!
I could stay lost in this moment forever.
- "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing", Aerosmith (Now imagine this from the Joker's POV while he's trying to torture Batman or something. Oh, Alonzo, you wonderfully twister contraption.)
Well, that was certainly...interesting.
