TV Meme: Day 14
For this answer, I was going to choose the Doctor, and I do think he's my overall favorite male character, but I think I've talked about Doctor Who too much, and I have lots of favorites. So I'm going to pick a brand-new favorite:
Day 14 - Favorite male character: Capt. H. M. "Howling Mad" Murdock (The A-Team)

I recently discovered this show on the Retro Television Network. It's incredibly dorky and dated, but I think I love it. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I really, really want to now. And Murdock is the best freaking part of the whole show.
Let's start off with an awesome Murdock quote about dreams:
Murdock: Bad? Bad? You wanna talk bad? Well, let's talk last night. I had a nightmare: See, Springsteen was sick. I was onstage, the band was ready, Clarence was out there cookin', and I was the only one who could fill the Boss's boots, so I put on my T-shirt, I put on my jeans, I walk out there, I open my mouth, and all I can do is "Mooooo!" just like a cow. "MoooOOOO!!!" And the audience is sayin', "Sing 'Born in the USA!' 'Born in the USA!'" And I'm goin', "MOOOOOOO!!!! MOOOOOOOO!!!!!" And I fall down on all fours and I start grazing on the amp cords and salivatin', and the audience is sayin, "Jungle Land! Jungle Land!" And then I...exploded.
It's from the very beginning of the Season 4 episode "The Doctor Is Out" (right after the opening credits), when he's having a session with his psychiatrist. It's absolutely hysterical. I also think that something about Murdock's eyes, voice, and tousled hair in that scene make him seem weirdly attractive. Maybe I'm nuts, too.
I love that scene because right after that quote, his psychiatrist, Dr. Richter starts addressing the main quesiton that surrounds Murdock: Is Murdock really crazy or is he just faking it? I think that he does have issues, but he mostly plays crazy because if he's proven sane, he'll have to assimilate back into society, since he's the only member of the A-Team who wasn't "charged with a crime they didn't commit." I feel like Murdock's loyalty to the A-Team holds him back from moving forward in his life, and I honestly think he's the show's most complex character. When an episode focuses on him, I swear it's just better quality than those episodes that focus on, say, Face. (Though I love Face, too.) I have to wonder if this is because his actor, Dwight Schultz, is/was a Shakespearean actor (YAY!), but I swear I'm overreading everything.
Also, Murdock is simply hilarious. He switches from insane to competent with such ease that he really does leave you wondering.
Oh, and though I haven't seen the new movie yet, I totally have faith in Sharlto Copley's rendition because I saw the movie trailers before the show and knew Murdock would be my favorite, then I watched an interview with him, and he's a total Murdock fanboy, and apparently, Dwight gave him his approval, which is good enough for me. But just one thing, movie: his name is H. M., not James. I have no idea where the hell you got that one. Please to be changing it if there's a sequel.
