And you know, I initially refused to watch House for similar reasons -- I thought it was a cheap knockoff of Black Jack. Well, I was half right... it's a knockoff, but definitely not cheap, haha XD

Isn't it weird when that happens? What is Black Jack? I'm not familiar with the show.

It's a famous manga about a doctor who works underground. He's a miracle worker and can perform miracle surgeries, but he charges ridiculous prices for his services. It's a fantastic series. Think House meets Batman.
