My obligatory final post of 2009 and the DECADE.

Dec 31, 2009 18:43

Well, it's New Year's Eve, and I'm missing 2009, not to mention the entire decade, already.  I know TIME Magazine called this "The Decade from Hell," but it really wasn't that way for me.  Yes, some bad stuff happened, but good stuff happened, too.  Here are the good things that happened to me during the 2000s:

1. I marched in the 2005 New Year's Day Tournament of Roses (Rose Bowl) Parade, and spent basically my whole winter break in California.
2. I graduated from middle school and high school.
3. I slow-danced with a guy for the first time.
4. I saw the ocean and mountains for the first (on separate trips, though).
5. I got my driver's license.
6. I went to college.
7. I went on a gluten-free, casein-free diet and my body and mind became healthier than it had been in years.
8. I met James, my wacky British friend.
9. I discovered fandom.
10. All of my wacky little cousins were born (they'll get a separate post soon).

Here's an end-of-the-year meme, snagged from visiblemarket:

Write down the first sentence of the first lj-post for each month of the year.

January:  Okay, networks, DON'T CUT TO COMMERCIALS WHEN THE HIGH SCHOOL BANDS SHOW UP!!!
February:  This afternoon, I was at a Super Bowl party at my aunt's house, and my relatives and I had just finished watching Jennifer Hudson sing the national anthem (which we'd decided was a good rendition).
March:  I haven't posted anything for awhile, so it's time for another meme.
April:  I snagged this fun meme from lavendergaia:
June:  Snagged from lavendergaia:
July:  Wow, that explains a lot!
August:  Okay, I just saw the local outdoor theater's amazing production of Hairspray last night.  (My favorite post.)
September:  Okay, so I'm in my "Practical Criticism/Writing About Literature" class and we're reading "Battle Royal" by Ralph Ellison, which later became the first chapter of his novel Invisible Man (which I haven't read, but I know it's about experiencing racism in mid-20th-century America).
October:  I was in Tulsa this weekend, watching my brother and my alma mater's marching band participate in a competition.
November:  Today, I was walking from class to eat lunch in the student union, and as I walked in, I saw a guy putting his backpack together, and I thought, "Oh, there's Topher."
December:  Because "Countrycide" and "Something Borrowed" just felt too SPN-ish for me to shrug the feeling off (and SPN started a whole year before Torchwood).

My first sentences are rather...boring.  I'm going to have to work on that.

waxing philosophical, life, new year's
