Another meme. I need to post something original soon...

Snagged from lotus0kid:

List seven songs that you are currently loving. It doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artists, and the songs in your blog.

I have no theme or anything, just some songs that have made me happy lately (in no particular order):

1. Bad Things by Jace Everett

I've seen a few episodes of True Blood and it seems pretty cool, but I'm absolutely in love with the theme song. It rocks in this nervy, sexy, even slightly kinky way. The lyrics, the guitar, the bass, and everything else about it are utterly perfect. I would love to grab a guy and just start dancing dirty to it.

2. Friends on the Other Side by Keith David (from Disney's The Princess and the Frog soundtrack)

I technically shouldn't have heard this yet, but a friend who shall remain anonymous sent me a link, and I fell in love with it. Keith David's singing voice is amazing (he voiced Goliath on Gargoyles, for reference), and the song sounds like a cross between "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin (especially the beginning) and "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from The Little Mermaid (mostly the middle and the end)---two of my favorite Disney songs sung by two of my favorite Disney characters. It has been so long since we've had a great Disney villain song, and I think this is the next one.

3. James Bond by Scouting For Girls

This song is so cute and catchy, and perhaps I've just watched one too many Doctor Who fanvids using this song, but it's just great. I love that the narrator is a fanboy, but he comes across as a hopeful daydreamer, not really snooty or thinking "I can do that better." And deep down, I think all of us regardless of gender, age, or race secret want to be James Bond.

4. Man for All Seasons by ???

I have no clue who sings this, but this Ninth Doctor/Christopher Eccleston tribute video totally sold me on this song, which I heard for the first time today. Like "James Bond" above, it's a ton of fun and really catchy, but in a more minor-key kind of way, with more of a rebellious edge, and I love it for that.

5. Captain John Hart's Theme from Torchwood

This one is fun to rock and sway to, and I think it captures the character wonderfully. I think the theme speaks for itself. Also, is it just me, or does it seem awfully suggestive that his theme is played on an organ?

6. Li'l Red Riding Hood by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs

I'm doing a research project on "Little Red Riding Hood" right now, and this song reveals a ton of the hidden sexual connotations lurking in this classic fairy tale. I love that it's from the wolf's point of view, which skews the story and yet somehow keeps it the same simultaneously. Also, this song shows that the wolf can be a really fun villain, if portrayed correctly.

7. Save the Last Dance for Me by Michael Buble

As much as I love John Barrowman, I think this version is a bit stronger. It's such a great dancing song with a wonderful tune, and though the feminist in me reads too much into the song and sees possible hints of a controlling relationship, I'd still like it played at my wedding if I ever get married it's a lot better than "As Long as He Needs Me" from Oliver!.

So, um, yeah. That meme speaks for itself.
